Alanna Shaikh is an international development consultant currently based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. She has worked in international development for about a decade with nongovernmental organizations, contractors, the U.S. government, and a United Nations agency. She has been in charge of programs in East Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East and is currently a TED fellow.
Alanna Shaikh has spent the last ten years immersed in global health; she has worked for NGOs, companies, universities, and the US government on projects that ranged from preventing antibacterial resistance to improving maternal and child health. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Boston University, and she’s lived in six countries.

2017-18 influenza: 959,000 hospitalized, 61,099 deaths.
Here in Michigan: 2017-18 1,869 deaths. No state of emergency, school cancellations, no cancellation of sports and no mandatory closing of bars and restaurants.............
Today, 53 confirmed cases who tested positive. State of emergency declared, schools cancelled, bars and restaurants closed and a run on our supermarkets.......

At 9:54 she says “WE have to make sure that EVERY country has enough Doctors and a system that can quickly identify and treat an outbreak “ after a statement of what occurred during the ebola flare up a few weeks ago...11 doctors died in Sierra Leone (from what she said) that only had 120? And she pointed out as compared to Dallas Baylor school that has a 1000 doctors on staff. I post this point out because countries such as Sierra Leone and I’m sure their neighbor’s have had huge amounts of time / money /knowledge poured into them time and time again only to see it squandered and coveted by a few and the populations be damned . Wash your hands ....be clean....etc... etc... etc....
