Coronavirus doctor says lung scans for young patients were ‘nothing short of terrifying’

A Belgian doctor working to battle the coronavirus says he’s treated several seriously ill young patients — and their lung scans were “nothing short of terrifying,” according to reports.

Dr. Ignace Demeyer, who works at a hospital in Aalst, said an increasing number of people between the ages of 30 and 50 have presented with severe symptoms, despite having “blank medical records” that show no underlying conditions that would make them high-risk, the Brussels Times reported.

“They just walk in, but they are terribly affected by the virus,” Demeyer told the Belgian broadcaster VRT.

I love how they use words like “terrifying” in the title.

What he is saying is correct. It’s not new news. The CT scans of some of these pts is very scary to us working in hospitals now. Plenty of examples on the Internet.

““It’s just the flu” bros will be left speechless by this.”

It takes someone to believe in the dramabug to say that because we don’t automatically believe every story that comes out. There is always far more to the story than reported. In other words, we’re not gullible.

Vaping is probably the cause. The lung and bronchial damage caused by vaping or smoking emulates pneumonia, with the addition of a build-up of tar. BTW, marijuana has more tar than tobacco, which is why they make oil from hemp family members but not from tobacco.

Pneumonia (which doesn’t describe the cause but simply the condition of an infection/inflammation of the lungs) leaves scars on the lungs, which is one of the reasons it’s easier to get pneumonia again if you’ve had it once. The bacteria, fungus or whatever get into the scar tissue and breed happily and then stake out the rest of the lung.

From the article: “Worldwide, there have been more than 190,000 people infected as of Tuesday afternoon, according to a tally from Johns Hopkins University.”

This is an excellent lesson in subtle bias. If you want it to sound scary, say “over 190,000”. If you want it to sound less scary, say “less than 200,000”. Totally unbiased might say “Approximately 195,000”.

Right, because the experience of a medical doctor that treats multiple patients is not as reliable as the anecdotal evidence of one patient’s experience.

Keep picking those cherries though...

No one is left anything. If you read the damn thing:

“an increasing number of people between the ages of 30 and 50...”

What the hell is this “young people” that the article IMPLIED?

Secondly, this guy doesnt even detail anything about any potential smoking habits or anything of the like. Saying they have a clean medical history is utter nonsense.

So how about asking the good doctor to put up his findings to the medical community instead of running to a news outlet so stupid people dont misinterpret this for clicks?

According to the article, no smoking, no heart disease and no diabetes.

I also don’t think that most people over age 40 vape - it tends to be a younger person’s game. Also, those who are older who do vape tend to do it less and aren’t looking for the taste offered by some questionable additives, as is the case with younger folks.

I think that while we most certainly need a LOT more data on the effects of the Kung Flu on people of all ages, races and health statuses (statii?), it seems clear to me that there is something different enough about this disease to warrant a fair amount of concern. It is not the flu, and it is not the common cold (and may corona viruses produce the common cold). SARS and MERS are also related corona viruses, and it SEEMS that this one has some effects more along the lines of those latter 2. People who say, “It’s just the flu, bro” are going to need to adjust their attitude for facts, IMHO (and I will be very happy to adjust MY attitude for facts if it turns out that this is a big nothing).

China didn’t quarantine a city of 11 million, then its entire metro area of 50 million, and then 700 million people, just for Schiffs and giggles; they did it because they were afraid of something. That they delayed telling the world about this, and then have continuously lied their red Commie asses off about it since, doesn’t change the facts of what they did to contain it within their own country - and I trust their actions a lot more than their words.
