You could be right—I hope you are right. But, consider, that virtually every world leader who is in a position to know what’s really happening or what is likely to happen has taken measures that have put his nation’s economy in the tank. Something about Wuhan is bothering/scaring nation’s leaders in ways that SARS, Swine Flu, etc. haven’t.

I’m sure every president/prime minister/supreme leader has asked the question, “What if we don’t lock down the country—what will happen?” and they haven’t liked the answer they’ve heard. So the major nations of Europe have basically shut down, several large states and cities in the US have done the same, borders in Europe have reappeared, and the world’s economy has taken a hit.

I look to Israel as the benchmark for many things. The Israelis don’t mess around, and if they do something it’s for a very good reason. And they immediately took this virus extremely seriously, including locking everything down and even starting to track those infected to trace their previous contacts.

This isn’t a hoax. We need to take extreme short term measures to combat this virus. I do agree with others, though, that beyond a few months we will have to find a way to bring the economy back to life or the cure will be worse than the disease.
