Interesting, thanks.
Yawn
It has been dissapointing. But I’m told that, the behavior we are seeing is a normal human emotional adjustment process. And some people accept the facts of what’s happening and act accordingly. While others are in denial and are given to angry denials of what’s happening.
I’ve been identifying people as Coronavirus Deniers, Frooges, and Frensures.
Coronavirus deniers are the ones that are in total denial that this is a serious disease.
Frooges are Freeping Scrooges. They don’t want to be inconvenienced and don’t care if old people die. They want to decrease the surplus population or as one freeper called them, the eater elderly.
And as Frooges. (Freeping Scrooges). The ones that just don’t care because only old people die.
And the Frensures are freepers who want to censure you. I don’t know if they are afraid bad news will hurt Trump, or bad news will hurt the market, or bad news will scare them. But they just want you to shut up about it. Never mind that the only hope we have of avoiding a disaster is to talk about it, and develop plans.
This will pass. We’re going to keep talking about it, because it help things from getting worse. Trump is going to be fine. Nobody wants Joe managing this over Trump. The Market will recover when we get control over the virus.
That picture is blurry! You stink! :)
Yawn
I've been here since early 1998, and I don't think much has changed here except for the number of people complaining about FR. If you don't like it, start your own competing conservative website and organize it just the way you like. Then see how many followers you get.
I don't quite see how you could have "been here since Reagan," since to the best of my knowledge FR started in 1997, eight years after Ronald Reagan passed away. Perhaps Jim had something going on Prodigy or AOL before the FR website, I don't know.
“80% or better recover from Coronavirus”
We are seeing some experts now saying 500,000 to 2 millions Americans may already be infected. Which means the survival rate is probably more like 99% or better in First World countries.
Like the vast majority of us, I grumble about the hair on fire crew but follow the protocols to keep others and myself as safe as reasonably possible.
Yup. Kind of reminiscent of how the real zealots feel about the dangers of climate change. They see it as a deadly crisis, and are astounded when there are people who don't shout their "Amens!" in agreement. They think anybody who doesn't agree with them surely must be a moron.
One thing that’s changed: The US has raised another generation of people who are illiterate in basic math and science.
We’re paying for it now.
It is so ironic. The denial of what is happening is on your panic pusher side. You all think you can flip a switch and start a roaring economy again immediately. It doesn’t work that way. We have pursued a cure far worse than the disease. Deny the reality all you want, but it is sure going to be a hard lesson for most of you. The elderly we are so eager to save will suffer ten fold during the coming economic crisis.
In the age of fake news people must manufacture their own reality. The guys from TN probably thought they were just profiting on unreasonable fears.
Within the next two weeks we’ll all pretty much converge on the same version of reality. Between now and then ...
Prepare!
I hear you, GulfMan. Im constantly reading FR...mostly because I just dont want to hear anything from TV. With FR I can pick and choose which articles to read but also get tons of information which I find helpful. Some viewpoints are different from mine..and I *try* to keep from posting. ;).
Wuhan flu blues? This too shall pass.
Were paying for it now.
Agreed. This sure isn't the America of the 1950s and '60s.
It's a shame; it wasn't even that engaging :-(
I don’t have anything against your view, but there’s one point that I haven’t heard anyone make. We don’t know the end result of the virus, but neither do we know the end result of the psychological effect of shutting down the country (please allow the hyperbole). I predict that more people will die from a spike in suicides than from the virus. I know I’m setting myself up for ridicule by saying that.
Over 1.6 million people have died from cancer in 2020 alone.
Over 3,000 people die a day in car accidents.
202,811 have died from malaria in 2020.
517,193 have died from alcohol in 2020.

I think most are being cautious....there’s always a few who get panicked in any emergency situation but on the whole people are being ‘reasonably’ cautious and prepared.
From what’s been said we’ll know in the next two to three weeks how this virus will play out. if or not we get hammered or have avoided what might have otherwise been..
Its just the Internet, dude.
There is a ton of good informationon both sides. You can find it.
One of the best thing to do, is log out and read the articles. When you feel like responding you must actively log in. That usually gives me pause.
Dont read the comments.
Most Freepers honestly lack the education in viruses, transmission, or epidemicsand they are unwilling or unable to educate themselves. When you see Rush Limbaugh quoted as a source...think about that....for medical issuesyou get the picture.
So, log out. Dont leave. Think about your education, your expectations, and base stories and comments on those.
We will be fine.
Its like fighting with my brothers. When the situation ended, we all got together to fight the bully down the streets.
