You see, it was all part of an extracurricular Skills USA competition and with over 100 hours worth of work invested in the piece, she was a frontrunner for first place.
Hayden was knocked for her use of the Chevrolet logo on the truck's grille, which is apparently a no-no. This caused judges to deduct 50 points from her overall score, putting her in second place.

Her 2nd place finish qualified her for state finals. She could/should get a scholarship out of this.
Never did find out which state she is in.
She didnt skimp on the detail. Gauges, pedals, the ribbing in the bed.
YES!!!
Nope, not all. Heavier duty trucks (3/4 ton and up) have 6 or 8, but most light duty trucks use 5 hole patterns.
She radiates joy.
Nope.
For the day GM 1/2 ton 4x4s used 6 bolts.
Blazers were only 1/2 ton.
6 lugs. QED
I have a number of ‘em.
Never did find out which state she is in.
Her Facebook page lists her favorite TNT BBQ in Lebanon, KY.
And it makes me hungry!
She radiates joy.
A very pleasant smile.
I thought we were talking about light trucks. You are talking about Chevies. But that is what she made, so I suppose you are correct in that regard.
My Fords, and Internationals were all 5 bolt in the light duty versions. The ‘77 Scout 50 feet from where I sit is 5 on 5 1/2.
It figures a southern gal would give such loving detail to a 4×4!
Okay, TNT of Lebanon KY is on my eatery bucket list.
Chevy manufacturers should hire her to sculpt for them- award her a huge paycheck- just for promoting their product
1. I am mortified that her welding skills seem to exceed mine
2. She will get the last laugh; thats well into four figures at either an art gallery or a truck show when the pandemic is over
A welder who owned a small shop told me that you wont get rich with welding skills, but you will never starve.
I x-rayed on code vessels and piping for years. She has “The
Talent” to get a high paying welding job.
Impressive but if the rules existed ahead of the competition then she should have followed them. The real unfairness would be rewriting the rules afterwards to favor a specific person.
“A welder who owned a small shop told me that you wont get rich with welding skills, but you will never starve.”
I used a welder for some small stuff. We would get to talking. Often I would have to wait (which was fine) due to his many trips. African safaris, South American fishing, etc.
I finally asked him how he could afford to do that - I couldn’t imagine that a welding/ machine shop brought in that much.
“No - the shop is just to keep me out of trouble and pay for ammo. I used to be a diver in the Navy. Then did under-water welding. Made all my money on the big dam sites.”
I had heard about those guys - answered my question! He finally did quit the business when leasing a place (Seattle) got too expensive.
He was a smart guy.
One time I was dropping something off he was telling me about the part he was working on. I’m just ad-libbing, but it sort of went like this:
“Yeah - so I got this drawing for a pump fitting (shows me the drawing). Navy ship going out next week. But that ship uses a 1-inch fitting, and the drawing calls for 3/4-inch. I tried calling them, but can’t reach anybody. But hell - I’m not following their drawing. A 401-60 pump uses 1-inch fittings.”
I asked him about it when I picked up my piece.
“Yeah - they had sent out the wrong drawing. No matter - they had the right part on Monday morning.”
"Add the FIFTY !"
If she wants to a little underwater welding, that is solid six figure territory.
I didn’t hear Turturro did this sequel for his Lebowski character (I’m surprised he wanted to touch it given that the character is a pederast, not something folks would be rushing to see). It didn’t look too well-received.
It’s gonna be hard to top his intro in Lebowski with The Gipsy Kings Spanish-themed version of “Hotel California.”
That version of the song is the best version of that song.
If she wants to a little underwater welding, that is solid six figure territory.
A friend of my pipefitter son in law grossed over TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND IN ONE YEAR.
A cross country pipeline welder, 100% x-ray.
That includes his per diem and rental on his ‘rig’ (welding truck and all equipment)
A young single guy, he told me he only was home less than a dozen nights in a year.
