Colorado Nurse With Coronavirus Says Symptoms Escalated From ‘Sniffles’

A Colorado nurse says her bout of coronavirus started with the “sniffles” — but soon involved nightmarish symptoms that were “nothing” like what she expected, according to a report.

Lisa Merck of Crested Butte said she tested positive for the virus after a vacation to Hawaii, where she attended a medical conference, news station KDVR reported.

“We went to a medical conference over there and on the day we were going to leave, I had little sniffles. That’s it,” Merck said.

They were saying 60 and over with those over 80 being certain to die. I still think underlying health issues are more of a determinant than the age number. (Washington State cases in the care center...must have had a Corona Carla working there)

I am 60, and do not think of myself as being "elderly." My mom, who passed away in January was 84, THAT was elderly.

That nurse did not social distance properly either. 😉

I’m thinking in terms of:

How often do you go to see the Quacks?

Walker use?

Still drive?

Handle your own financial affairs?

Live in your own house?

Cut the grass?

Shovel the snow?

Go to the range?

Etc.?

“In the last few days I’ve become sensitized and more interested in finding a good working definition of “elderly”. Any thoughts? “

Anyone who is at least 20-25 years older than you are.

In the last few days I’ve become sensitized and more interested in finding a good working definition of “elderly”.

Any thoughts?

Elderly is anyone 30 years older than me.

"Elderly is anyone 30 years older than me."

I'm beginning to see that the difference year number is a function of age.

"first off they must be older you.."

Fact 0, unless you have crossed a certain time on the planet in better shape than the vast majority of one's peers.

“Why go to Hawaiistan?”

She actually attended a Medical Conference in Hawaii.

I’m thinking she decided to have a really good time on the island instead of just staying in and only attending the required meetings.

Not the brightest light bulb in the package.

Nobody says you can’t catch it if you’re under 60, it’s just not as deadly at younger ages.

All of the “experts” I’ve seen say there is no “runny nose” involved in Wuhan virus — so no sniffles.

Right. Many of the younger people could be carriers.

The oldsters want the youngin’s to get it and develop herd immunity so the virus goes away next year.

Only stories about individuals. Quite a few over the past few weeks have said that their illness from the coronavirus started with “sniffles.” Odd.

"Why go to Hawaiistan?"

Must be funded by taxpayers.

“Nothing I’ve read says it starts with “the sniffles.” Anyone see otherwise?”

there’s only about a bazillion websites that describe a runny nose (aka “the sniffles”) as an early symptom ... i guess you don’t bother to read much:

https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses#:~:text=symptoms

Always an @sshat in the room. The symptoms I’ve seen are compared to the flu and allergies and runny nose wasn’t listed for corona. If you have some info for my question, great, but don’t be a d1ck.

My mom is going strong at 98...that’s elderly (although she’d chase me down and thrash me if I dared suggest that).

I’m over 70 and am not elderly. My mom is 96, and she’s not elderly.

Technically, I guess we’re “senior citizens”, but we don’t feel that way. Wuhan virus might have something to say about that, but it would be tough to give in to it if confronted.
