LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- As the number of coronavirus cases in California rapidly escalates, Gov. Gavin Newsom is calling for all bars in the state to close. Newsom is also asking all Californians age 65 and older and those with chronic conditions to isolate themselves at home.
"We are calling for the home isolation of all those 65 years or older and all those with chronic conditions," Newsom said.
He said all bars, wineries, nightclubs and brewpubs should be closed.

And you are missing the point. The rate for people under 65 is NO DIFFERENT than the flu. 65+ should isolate, avoid hugs/kisses, wipe things down, etc. Encourage people to work from home. That's all you need to do to bend the curve.
LOL!
Yet they are trying to shut down everything else.
Yet truckers haul across the country and visit towns all across this country. It will spread this thing out EVEN THOUGH they shut down everything else.
That is how GD stupid and out of control this hysteria has become.
You are right. They shut them down and it will be something to behold. Should have put the sarcasm tag on that post.
I would imagine you are thinking. WTF is your solution? Schools, Old Folks homes, and a few other things. Let them shut them down for a while. The virus is out, and it is a good bet out of control.
There goes SanFranNan’s lifestyle.
So will I now be IDed at age 81 if I go shopping for food and whatever?
This is flat out horse shit.
We will not be safer.
It’s a experiment in population control
My husband will be 83 next month. Thank God he doesn’t go to bars anymore
“What about pot houses?”
Don’t Bogart that joint my....oh, wait, nevermind.
Dear Gavin Noisome, I call on you to KMA!
I not a conspiracy nut but I do believe that California socialists soiled themselves while experiencing uncontrolled joy at the opportunity to further bankrupt private enterprises and control the population.
The threat of a catastrophic depression brought on by all this media-driven hysteria scares me far more than does the virus.
1) STOP allowing visitors to nursing homes and hospitals, period
2) Elderly should self-isolate as much as possible, as well as those who care for elderly
3) Encourage people to not shake hands
4) Encourage people not to visit grandma and grandpa for a few months
5) Encourage employers to allow working remote for a couple months.
NONE of these things cost anything to GDP and bend the curve massively. We may be looking at an economic drop similar to the first wave of the great depression if this keeps up much longer.
Worse, because we won't have herd immunity, this will KEEP COMING BACK until we do.
You are wrong . I feel great concern for the employees who don’t have a large margin of 5 in their economic situation . I feel concern for freedom. You have no “heart” about those apparently . Everyone is free to stay locked into their house as long as they want. Apparently , you need to study the Constitution and the Bill of Rights . Read history of the sacrifices for freedom. You can do this in the safety of your home. You are frightened. You are weak. Have a great day.
Kalifornia is just full of Republican representatives!(fer sure)
But closing bars will also have a disproportionate impact on dipsomaniacs. So he is also a dipsophobe.
Should be closed?
Is that an opinion? Preference? Request? Or order?
Is someone enforcing this?
You can file a lawsuit saying your constitutional rights have been violated. But there is both precedent and valid legal arguments against you.
Testing, tracking, and quarantining is the best way to limit the spread and quickly restore consumer confidence.
So yes, I do have a heart for employees and business owners. Letting this spread uncontained is going to be worse for them, as consumer fear will grow. They might continue to have business for a couple of weeks, but when the real impact of this occurs, and the hospitals are overwhelmed, those employees and businesses will be hit much harder than if we try to contain this.

Ahhh, its guidance.
Fine then I guess.
I am not sure how many marginally employed restaurant workers would like to go bankrupt for a virus that has killed 6 in this state.
Yes, I know it will be more and that is important. Needlessly destroying livelihoods is also important.
Respectfully, will you describe this “hot mess” and how it differs from how this country dealt with the 2009 H1N1 situation?
You cant shut off interstate commerce. Trucks have to roll. If youre over 60 be careful. Shut down trucks for 3 days and reap the whirlwind. If the government wants to prove my theory close interstate traffic.
