LIST: Closures, cancellations and suspensions due to COVID-19 (Alaska)

Alaska's governor announced the first case of the novel coronavirus in the state Thursday evening. Officials say the "presumptive positive" test will be sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation.

Meanwhile, state and federal agencies and organizations have begun canceling classes, extending spring breaks, postponing events and more out of concern over the spread of the virus which causes COVID-19.

Here is a list of the latest announcements, updated several times daily:

* Alaska K-12 public schools: On March 13, Gov. Dunleavy announced all school days between March 16-30 would not be in-person instruction. Teachers and staff will do in-service work days although no students will be in schools. All after-school activities have been canceled for that time also.

* Alaska Pacific University: APU announced March 12 it would also be moving classes online for the remainder of the academic term and canceling its spring commencement. The university has canceled in-person classes through March 20 to give faculty time to prepare and will resume normal class schedule March 23.

* Anchorage School District: In late February, the district canceled all international travel for school trips; three days later it canceled all domestic travel for school trips.

* Galena Interior Learning Academy: Students have the option of doing the rest of the school year from their hometowns.
