With the COVID-19 virus closing schools in China, South Korea, Italy, and the United States, parents are having to make a sudden and unexpected change in their childrens education. Most often, it means shifting education into the home.
This learning at home looks different in different places. In Hong Kong, the government ordered 800,000 students to take what the Wall Street Journal calls a crash course in digital learning.
In New York City, parents are already seeking out homeschooling resources that fit their children and their families in preparation for any school closings.
The freedom of parents to choose the kind of education thats best for each child is something weve been advocating for more than 35 years.
Whether a child is facing bullying, a challenging medical condition, or a unique family situation (such as frequent military reassignments), learning at home can provide an immediate and customized solution. And homeschooling doesnt have to be a stop-gap measure. In fact, millions of students have discovered how home education empowers them to thrive.

LOL
Dumbest post of the day so far.
Yeah, kids totally think in those terms.
Dorks get bullied because they are dorks.
It's tradition.
All children need to learn to self teach Themselves by reading things and then doing problems at the end of the chapter
Teachers another assistant should be available to answer questions
Imagine that........
Dork kids or not, public schools are sh*tholes run by zombie ideologues, and I speak from extensive first hand experience.
While we homeschooled in the 90s, our daughter did go to public HS for 3 years. She did not allow herself to be bullied nor was she afraid to go to HS. But I dealt frequently with some of the most ignorant “educated” people one can have the misfortune to meet. From teachers all the way up to the superintendent and the school board. What a bunch of oxygen wasters!
There are times I wish I had written a book on the insulting, inane, illogical, and often unethical crap that pervades public schools - and the people who spew it. I stood up to all of it, pretty successfully. But I was appalled at how few parents would stand up to their crap and back their kids. And the bald faced lying? These people lied all the time to avoid making decisions. Incredible bureaucratic cowards - and again that included the superintendent of schools.
Thank God she graduated at 16 and went off to a very successful college career. I can tell you there were more than a few administrative people in the country system were were damn glad to see the last of me so they could go back to intimidating compliant parents.
Something positive out of all this hysteria-parents taking control of their kids’ education so they end up with learning and skills that will have them working and successful in the real world...
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
You are projecting again.
Kids don’t know from ideologues or policies.
They bully dorks. That’s life.
We had a projector and slides in the 60's and 70's.
No idea what happened to it. Ultimately tossed out the slides.
So no, I'm not projecting.
Oh, why don’t you just shut up...you are tiresome
GEEZE this could actually be a silver lining universities doing on line classes AND younger kids getting home schooled OMG the rays of sunshine!!
Probably the number one reason for homeschooling.Whether a child is facing bullying
Your kid is a dork and can't hack it and cries a lot.
Ya know, if you go to your 50th class reunion, its eye-opening how little correlation there is between the impression you had of someone as a teen and who/how successful they were when they retired. One dork simply couldnt work to grade level, and got a token pass to graduation. Ended up writing books. You just cant most always hardly tell.
And the attitude of school is that they can and they do.
My wife is in her second year of homeschooling . Was very leery of the decision . Im glad she did.
On reason might be that your opinion doesn't matter to me.
Should it? If so, why?
Leftist puppy mills....
There’s a silver lining.
Because the kids spread it among themselves.
And then take it home to their 40 something parents.
Who end up on ventilators:
