The irony with the hand sanitizer thing is that washing your hands with soap and water is the MOST effective thing you can do to prevent the spread of the virus.
And yet so many people act like hand sanitizer is the salvation of the world.
I saw a couple young kids once, with filthy hands, grab some hand sanitizer to wipe on their hands before eating.
I said to them that their hands were filthy and they really ought to wash them first. I don't recall what they said to me, but I pointed out that the hand sanitizer doesn't take the dirt off. It just smears it around. With soap and water, you are actually rinsing the dirt off.
They looked at me like I had two heads. They didn't know what to say. They clearly had never heard that before.

MAYOR DE BLASIO: Tomorrow, I will sign an Executive Order limiting restaurants, bars and cafes to food take-out and delivery. Nightclubs, movie theaters, small theater houses, and concert venues must all close. The order will go into effect Tuesday, March 17 at 9:00 AM.
I like the baby wipes that people are using on their kids hands. Evenly distributes the dirt in a uniform layer.
Yeah when I went to Menard’s yesterday the young guy at the checkout sneezed. He did it into his inner elbow which was good and then he grabbed the hand sanitizer and smeared it on his hands real quick, not even good coverage and went about his business like hand sanitizer was some magic thing.
I’ve had to get on my daughter about not using enough water when washing dishes or scrubbing and piling up in large batches to rinse as a second step. The whole point is that soap and enough water suspends the dirt/grease so that it will rinse off. Meanwhile the first dish she scrubs, party dries before she gets around to rinsing.
