In this era fraught with coronavirus worries and new advice coming seemingly every day, I'd like to propose a new replacement for the germ-filled handshake. Let's revive Mr. Spock's Vulcan salute from Star Trek, a simple and sanitary gesture that's just as useful as a handshake greeting, and 10 times more charming.
Even if you're not a huge Star Trek fan, you likely know the gesture. Actor Leonard Nimoy, who died in 2015, invented it himself. The actor would raise his hand with the palm facing forward, thumb extended, and his middle and ring finger parted. It's often accompanied with the spoken words "live long and prosper," sometimes paired with the words, "peace and long life."

Also, Spock’s ‘nerve pinch’ (causing unconsciousness/paralysis to his victims) was taken from writer Lester Dent’s 1930’s and 1940’s popular pulp fiction hero, Doc Savage.
I knew that was coming the minute I read the thread....didn’t take long!
“”Very many people cannot perform that sign with their hands. I am one of those who cannot.””
I can’t either. Neither can I separate my toes to cut my toenails - the two nearest the big toe are like they’re stuck together....Never noticed it when I was young but boy, I sure notice it now at what one might call an “advanced or mature” age. I sometimes nip right into the toe next to the third one from the big toe or put another way - the one next to the little toe. I’m sure they must have names like fingers and teeth!
I use the phrase “live wrong and perspire”
Made me smile.
One of the Doctors at the White House elbow bumped President Trump.
Nah. We should use the okay sign instead of the Vulcan gesture. No problems with that is there? Hehe
I think we should do the Indian “How” salute. I cannot do the Spock Vulcan salute, no matter how hard I try. The Indian “How” salute is sooooo easy. :-)
