Between them brothers Marcus Raymond Lewis and Michael Lee Camps have convictions for more than 120 offences
A burglar who crept into a house and stole a military-issue rucksack shared his booty with his brother before punching a car, a court has heard.
But the pair were caught red-handed by the victims who realised something was amiss after spotting a Teddy bear on the floor, and went in pursuit.
The bizarre brotherly burglary incident ended with a "physical confrontation" in the street - and one of the defendants repeatedly punching the windscreen of a car.
Swansea Crown Court heard that between them siblings Marcus Raymond Lewis and Michael Lee Camps have convictions for more than 120 offences.
Both are now behind bars.
Hannah George, prosecuting, said on the evening of August 25 last year a couple living in Addison Road in Sandfields, Port Talbot, were watching TV in the living room of the property when they heard what sounded like their front door going.
When they went to check, the hallway was empty - but a Teddy bear that had been balancing on the banister was now on the floor.
Miss George said that, suspicions aroused, the male occupant of the house went outside and saw a man walking down the street with a military rucksack on his back similar to one he himself owned.
The victim went back into the house to check where his backpack was, only to find it was missing - along with his partner's purse.
The pair jumped into a car and set off in pursuit of the man with the rucksack, and found him and another man hiding behind a wall near Vivian Park. Together they were going through the contents of the backpack, which included a gas monitor and safety goggles.
The prosecutor said a "physical altercation" then took place involving Lewis and the male victim before Lewis began attacking the couple's car, kicking the bonnet and punching the windscreen.
Both defendants were subsequently arrested, and Lewis' DNA was matched to DNA recovered from the male victim's shirt.
Lewis, aged 32, of Parc Prison in Bridgend, had previously pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal damage when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.
He had also previously pleaded guilty to separate offences of common assault and theft involving his partner of four-days - an incident which saw him grabbing the woman by the throat, throwing her around a room, and taking £80 from her jeans pocket while telling her he had a knife.
Camps, aged 35, of Queen's Court, Victoria Road, Port Talbot, had previously pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods - the items from the rucksack - when he appeared alongside his sibling.
The court heard Lewis has 37 previous convictions for 87 offences including numerous burglaries, 33 thefts and kindred offences, dangerous driving, possession of a bladed article, robbery - mugging a pizza delivery driver - common assault, and battery. One of his previous convictions for violence had seen him punching his pregnant partner in the head after she had tried to stop him drunkenly urinating in their bedroom
Camps has 18 previous convictions for 25 offences including burglary, handling stolen goods, shoplifting, interfering with a vehicle and battery - this offence had seen him butting his partner to the nose, causing it to bleed. He was subject to a suspended sentence at the time of the brotherly break-in.
Tom Scapens, for Lewis, said the burglary had been "opportunistic" in nature - entry having been gained through an unlocked front door - and he had been inside the property for only a very short time.
The barrister said the defendant had undertaken painting and decorating qualifications while in custody, and was now on a prescription for the heroin substitute methadone.
John Tarrant, for Camps, said his window cleaner client had "very limited involvement" in the incident, and maintained he had been contacted by his brother to meet-up on the day in question.

Lewis was sentenced to a total of 32 months for the Addison Road offences and five months for the assault and theft offences. The sentences will run consecutively making a total of 37 months.
Camps was sentenced to 20 weeks for handling stolen goods, and judge Keith Thomas activated eight weeks of the suspended sentence he was subject to. These sentences will run consecutively making a total of 28 weeks.
Both defendants will serve half the period of their sentences in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community.

Be prepared, I always say.
Shared his booty with his brother
Nancy Boy.
Brother Marcus looks as though his nose has been broken at least once in his life. I guess he doesn’t learn, if you go around punching cars that don’t belong to you, you’re likely to get smacked in the face, or worse.
You can just taste the excitement and anticipation. If there were any backpack that should have had a secret stash of sugar-free gummy bears, this was the one.
Both of them look like their noses have been broken, and by a lefty no less. Their father was probably left-handed.
That was hard to read.......
I wonder what the author was on while writing this mess.
when they heard what sounded like their front door going.
I wonder if thats a British phrase. My front door rarely goes anywhere.
