Alex Jones Accused Of Selling Fake Coronavirus Cures
News9 ^ | Friday, March 13th 2020

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is the latest purveyor of silver-laced potions ordered to stop peddling fake cures for the coronavirus.

Jones claimed on his radio show last week that his Silverblue toothpaste "kills the whole SARS-corona family at point-blank range," according to a news release on Thursday by New York Attorney General Letitia James. She ordered Jones to immediately refrain from selling the toothpaste and other products as cures on his website, InfoWars.

"As the coronavirus continues to pose serious risks to public health, Alex Jones has spewed outright lies and has profited off of New Yorkers' anxieties," James, a Democrat, said in a statement. "Mr. Jones's public platform has not only given him a microphone to shout inflammatory rhetoric, but his latest mistruths are incredibly dangerous."

Infowars did not immediately return a request for comment.

The prosecutor's warning to Jones, known for promoting conspiracy theories about mass shootings and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, came days after his arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated in Austin, Texas.

The Food and Drug Administration and Federal Trade Commission recently told televangelist Jim Bakker to stop claiming his silver potions could cure the coronavirus.

There are no FDA-approved vaccines or drugs to treat or prevent COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and there is no scientific evidence that alternative remedies can stop or cure the illness, according to the National Institutes of Health. Colloidal silver liquid containing silver particles can, in fact, be dangerous to your health, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Besides argyria and argyrosis, exposure to soluble silver compounds may produce other toxic effects, including liver and kidney damage, irritation of the eyes, skin, respiratory, and intestinal tract, and changes in blood cells. Metallic silver appears to pose minimal risk to health.

Okay, help me out. If I google it, I see it described as a real condition on all kinds of medical sites: webmd, emedicine, etc.

Interesting. As I understand it, used in the right way (e.g., on some medical equipment) silver is a good antibacterial for surfaces. There also looks to be conflicting evidence as to whether the same is true generally for viruses.

I thought I saw an article saying colloidal silver was not effective in stopping coronavirus - or a number of other viruses...and can cause more harm when tried against respiratory illnesses.
If it was effective, I’d wager it would be sold out and unavailable by now...

Your “truth” is not recognized by the FDA. Colloidal Silver has no clinical proof it can cure any disease. To put such a claim on your product will get you a nasty fine by the FDA.

Silver is good for photography. Ingested in the body, your skin becomes a photographic surface that turns dark with exposure to light. Permanently. That’s the ticket!

Yes, silver is a cure for infection. You die from the cancer which also kills the infection.

Your claims that colloidal silver can cure COVID-19 is getting attention by the New York Attorney General:

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced today that her office sent a cease and desist order to Bakker this week as part of an overall action plan against coronavirus scams. The letter was signed by Lisa Landau, the chief of the Health Care Bureau.

The World Health Organization (“WHO”) has noted that there is no specific medicine to prevent or treat this disease. Therefore, any representation on the Jim Bakker Show that its Silver Solution products are effective at combatting an/or treating the 2019 novel coronavirus violates New York law.

Your show is hereby advised to immediately cease and desist from making misleading claims regarding the Silver Solution’s effectiveness as they violate New York’s consumer protection statutes… which prohibit fraudulent and deceptive business practices and false advertising.

Additionally, you are advised to immediately affix the disclaimer – “These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.” – to all Silver Solution products listed on the show’s online store.

A Jim Bakker show without misleading claims would be more like a 30-second commercial, but the point is clear: He’s lying to people. He needs to stop.

And yet, even if he’s not saying outlandish things about the silver, the scary thing is that no amount of disclaimers will ever stop his gullible viewers from handing over their money. If the cancer warning didn’t do the trick, why would noting the lack of approval from the FDA?

You are connecting silver with cancer? Is that akin to wishful thinking?

I used to have terrible troubles with sinus infections. Had the roto-rooter surgery to open things up, which helped some, but not enough.

Started using a neti pot, which helped some, but not enough. Sinus infection turned to pneumonia Dec of ‘17.

Bought a Navage and started using it fall of ‘18. Sinus infection turned to pneumonia in Dec of ‘18.

Last fall I started adding an ounce of Silver Biotics brand colloidal silver solution to the Navage rinse. Haven’t had so much as the sniffles since.

Coincidence? Maybe, but I like to think not.
