If you read the entire thread, you would realize the issue isn't Open Shell at all, but Windows 10 itself. Users have been complaining for three months about File Explorer search being ruined by the 1909 update. I didn't realize it when I submitted my post, otherwise I wouldn't have.
One person's waste of time is another person's boost to productivity. As it stands, Windows 10 (1909) is a hindrance to the usability for many users. If it doesn't for you, be grateful.

date range is still available but I have to jump thru hoops. I never seem to be able to get the calendar to popup.
Instead, I manually type the range as such: datemodified:2/1/2016 .. 2/7/2016
in the search box.
