2020 Masters Tournament Postponed
masters.com ^ | 3/13/2020 | Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club:

Posted on 03/13/2020 7:12:05 AM PDT by foreverfree

"On Wednesday, March 4, we issued a memo stating that our plans to host the Masters Tournament, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals had not changed. Unfortunately, the ever-increasing risks associated with the widespread Coronavirus COVID-19 have led us to a decision that undoubtedly will be disappointing to many, although I am confident is appropriate under these unique circumstances.

"Considering the latest information and expert analysis, we have decided at this time to postpone the Masters Tournament, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals."

This one I can almost understand, given the age of most of the spectators. Sad though.

This is making me very cranky. Sports has been a refuge, not anymore.

Working out keeps me sane, my local gym closed.

Whiskey and old movies are calling me.

It won’t be the same without the Azaleas.

This is dumb. Just don’t allow any spectators. 120 golfers, 120 caddies, and few camera men, some drones and the usual list of roving analysts including David Feherety, Gary McChord, Jim Nance, and Nick Faldo.

That would be awesome.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see any sports until middle May, when a truncated MLB season finally starts.

This is stupidity beyond reason.

The world can not just shutdown because a bunch of rich people don’t want to get sick. The corona virus isn’t going away... After they come out of their bunkers the virus will still be here waiting for them. Being fearful and worrisome is not the answer to facing this virus.

Accepting it is. Life must carry on even if it means death for some. Face the truth and you will be better off for it.

Walking out of your door and into the street has always been dangerous because there are germs everywhere and diseases everywhere, and cars that can run you over and people who can shoot you with a gun... Just add this virus to the list of multiple dangers when you walk outside your door and deal with it.

Golf should’ve just banned spectators. They just screw up things by shouting things like “Baba Booey”

A weird dynamic there, where the tix from Augusta are 115 bucks and they usually are 2 to 3 grand on the resale market.

Augusta National and The Masters is broadcast with only 5 minutes of commercials for each hour of golf so their not hurting for money since ESPN and CBS pay them big bucks for the broadcast rights even with limited advertising.

Yes, but there would be no "roars" throughout Augusta National, which is unique in itself.

That’s easy enough to simulate as it adds pressure to those chasing the leader

Tickets for The Master's are like season tickets for football. Once you're in you're in and can renew every year I believe. They also hold a certain number that are available through a lottery (i tried a number of times but never got selected). The membership at Augusta National is really not in it for the money... Concession prices are really low comparable to other sporting events for instance. And they told whatshername to go take a hike when she was trying to blackmail them over the lack of women members. Now tickets being resold is another matter.

My son in law is a PGA teaching pro and he gets in for free with his card.
Loves those cheap concessions.

OMG. ...I had no idea Tiger won last year. ...I must of been in a coma. ....well, something like it. ....

I love what Tiger does for the kids with his foundation.
I always thought that blonde chick was a wrong move. But hey, I had one of those wife’s too.

I betcha he has two more Masters yet to win.

Funny thing is that watching the Masters, I feel like I am there. ..I mean I can just smell the pine trees and all...such a beautiful place. ...
