I wouldn't be surprised if there are millions in the US who are 'infected' with the bug, but are asymptomatic or have minor symptoms no worse than a cold. An increase in the number of infected without a similar increase in the number of deaths will bring down the fatality rate and hopefully add a sense of perspective to this overblown debacle. The unnecessary panic is doing more harm than the actual virus.

I don't recall public gatherings and sports seasons being cancelled during the swine flu outbreak in 2009 where over 60 million Americans were infected and roughly 13,000 died.

I agree. I believe it has already been through the much of the midwest. People got it, recovered, and never got tested. There were no tests. People had been dispersing all around the world thru Wuhan for a long time before the travel ban. And all the people who left Wuhan even two weeks before the ban... they carried it, potentially, and asymptomatic.

For the first time this year, I got a flu shot. My doctor has been standing on his head, trying to get me to take it, for over a decade, and I just would not. I told him the flu shot won’t prevent coronavirus. “No, it won’t, but it will kick your immune system into gear.” I still wasn’t convinced. Then he hit me below the belt, so to speak -— “If you get the coronavirus, and give it to your husband, he could die, because of his emphysema.”
Well, he had me there. I scowled at him, groused at him a bit more, then acquiesced. So far, I haven’t grown a 2nd ear, or sprouted another nostril, and didn’t have any aftereffects from the shot. But I’m still miffed he used dirty pool to get me to get it.
