The XFL regular season is over, but the XFL isn’t gone.
The upstart league released a statement confirming that it will suspend its season, as virtually all American sports organizations have in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the XFL also said it will return next year.
“Currently, the XFL will not be playing its regular season games,” the league’s statement said. “However, all players will be paid their base pay and benefits for the 2020 regular season. All XFL ticket holders will be issued refunds or credit towards future games. The XFL is committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years.”

It seems to me that simple logic dictates that we want to knock this thing out as quickly as possible, in order to minimize the amount of time that daily life is affected. Well, the best way to do that is to take whatever measures are necessary to minimize its early spread, and let it burn itself out quicker within a smaller affected population. The “aaah, it’s just the flu” attitude, if translated into policy, would ensure that the damage would go on for many, many months at best.
Weird. I thought only gatherings of more than 250 people were being discouraged. Doesn’t that exempt the XFL? :-)

update: PGA is on hold till The Masters as of 9 hours ago.
Another update: The ATP Tour has postponed all play for six weeks because of “escalating health and safety issues” arising from the coronavirus outbreak. The WTA is also off for five weeks.
Sports are usually an escape, but now we must settle into a life without them.
