One of the nations top health officials leading the coronavirus response on Wednesday admitted it is a failing that individuals cannot easily get tested for the disease in the U.S.
The system is not really geared to what we need right now what you are asking for, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told a member of Congress during a House Oversight and Reform hearing Wednesday.
That is a failing. It is a failing. Let's admit it, he said.
Fauci made the remarks under questioning from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) about why people who need testing havent been able to get it, including nurses who are taking care of coronavirus patients.
The idea of anybody getting it easily the way people in other countries are doing it, we're not set up for that. Do I think we should be? Yes, but we're not.

This moron should not be answering questions before Congress. Because his forte isn’t explaining things to people in a way that isn’t politically disastrous. Whereas the job requires doing no political harm.
“Thing just popped up recently so how can tests be available so soon and so fast?”
A US company makes a test kit and has sold millions to China and SK. CDC and FDA will not allow it to be used here until further testing.
“Thing just popped up recently so how can tests be available so soon and so fast?”

Once the genome is sequenced, it’s easy to make kits because they know what they’re looking for in the test. Anyone can make the tests with that info.
It came out of Chine so how soon were it possible ID the virus then make a test kit for 320 million people????? And by what lab(s) to drop everything to start making those kits???
Obamacare is finished, Trump told reporters before a cabinet meeting. Its dead. Its gone. You shouldnt even mention it. Its gone. There is no such thing as Obamacare any more.
October 2017
The obvious problem is that for most people it presents as a strong cold and they get better and never seek medical attention where they could be tested.
My question would be how many people have gone to a doctor or hospital exhibiting symptoms and were unable to get tested? We don’t need millions of test kits at least as of yet to accommodate that number of people. I believe that population is being tested. Having a large number of kits may be necessary down the road.
And the MSM is blaming Trump for lack of test kits??
Perhaps the goal, but its still in effect
That is a failing. It is a failing. Let’s admit it, he said.

Our expensive and politicized bureaucracies failing us is not surprising at all. What WOULD be a surprise is if they actually did something proactively, efficiently, and effectively.
The MSM is Comcast, Disney, and ATT
Eliminate the CDC monopoly on developing, approving and licensing the manufacture of disease test kits. Let private labs and industry do it for a profit.
I don't know about anyone else on FR, I view Dr. Fauci as a truth-teller. He's pointing out what's happened to our health care system in the wake of Obamacare and it taking time to un-do the damage it did.
Are we really prepared for a major outbreak of this thing and could we really handle all the diagnostic testing it may generate?
Dr. Fauci says we aren't and I'll take his word for it.
So now what?
Wash your hands people. Cover your coughs and sneezes, stay away from others if you're not feeling well. It's all common sense.
No. Government red-tape maybe. Why are there no tests, for real?
The MSM are all those idiots on MSNBC, CNN, and the rest of them.
Want to bet the reason the CDC isn’t interested in purchasing tests kits from that company is because it’s not run or owned by friends and family?
The CDC is so snarled up in empire building, turf protection and grifting they can’t get anything done.
And everything has to be FDA approved; apparently the CDC doesn’t have any emergency power to side step them.
Have you heard of any mass layoffs?
” I view Dr. Fauci as a truth-teller.’
Ditto. I’m glad he’s in the thick of it.
I think he’s NIH. Panic will help destroy Trump, so he’s saying whatever he needs to to please his fellow deep staters.
Has anyone asked the CDC what the hangup is? The private sector could jump in for non urgent tests, but the BS of hospitals not testing symptomatic people because they don’t meet the criteria has got to stop.
This one doesn't qualify as a mass layoff however my employer announced they were hiring 900 people last December. Monday that got put on hold and the 200+ job requisitions we had open were frozen.
That's what this coronavirus hype is doing to business right now. Everyone's reacting out of fear.
