I haven’t heard that CV causes any more frequent bowel movements than not. It’s a respiratory illness not the stomach flu. What am I missing with this run on TP?
I think it’s about isolation. If I have enough TP I don’t need to leave the house and get exposed to germs.

I guess there's a concern about being able to keep the backside clean.....maybe Venezuela is on people's mind.
I don’t understand the run on TP either, but this Twitter feed about it is pretty hilarious!
#toiletpaperapocalypse
The only explanation I can come up with is CV somehow eats toilet paper.
Most of the descriptions of symptoms I've seen regarding COVID-19 include diarrhea. That, along with stores only have about 3 days worth of supplies on hand, and potential supply chain disruptions due to quarantine, are probably the biggest factors. I'm sure there are opportunists in there, as well, buying up all they can to sell for $5/roll later.
You are missing that most people are idiots and quickly fall in line with the herd mentality.
1) If one is quarantined for some reason, it may not be possible to get out, to get more TP.
2) If one is quarantined for some reason, then 100% of toilet usage will be in the home, not spread out at workplace, other places. So, likely to need more for home use.
Just my thoughts.
What you are missing is the second order effects of this virus becoming widespread. This means that if we have quarantines, lots of people are going to go to work, including the truck driver who delivers the toilet paper and the stockers and put it on your shelves. People are preparing to be in isolation for several weeks, and when thats the case the most precious substance known to mankind is toilet paper.
Even if CV did cause digestive system problems I don’t believe the average person knows that. According to the symptom charts floating around it is possible but rare.
My guess is that what most people call “the flu” isn’t the flu at all. Its usually an enterovirus, food poisoning, something similar that includes...explosive events.
