Bringing the rapidly spreading global pandemic home to Hollywood in a dramatic way, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson announced Wednesday that they have tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a statement relayed through their representative, Hanks said the two contracted the illness in Australia, where the actor is currently filming Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley biopic, in which Hanks is playing Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Hanks and Wilson are both 63 years old.
“Hello, folks,” Hanks writes in the statement. “Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”
Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!”
Shortly after releasing the statement, Hanks tweeted an image of a surgical glove in a garbage can.

She is a breast cancer survivor.
Hope they become examples of successful recovery.
I don’t mean to sound uncaring, but having a celebrity get this virus my be a good thing to show everyone how benign it really is....im going to assume they get over it relatively easy...and that’s probably a safe assumption.

This disease was discovered a mere 3+ months ago. Has the world really developed exact, precise, uniformly administered and accurately and repetitively analyzed tests all across the globe?

Just wait until you hear that entire team of NBA Is quarantined in an arena and NBA just suspended the season...but oh hey..its just the flu

Diabetes is on the list of conditions that can cause this virus to take you out. But he will be getting Super Duper Medical care so likely will survive just fine

When the story of this is written, the NBA postponement and Tom Hanks diagnosis could very well be the moment the average American began taking coronavirus seriously. The question, of course, is how much worse this will end up being because that took so long
