It's 'state of emergency.' So why isn't Newsom, other Dem governors, ordering telecommuting for public employees?

I don't get it. Newsom is calling for people to steer clear of big meetings, sporting events, etc.

SO WHY HASN'T HE ORDERED TELECOMMUTING FOR STATE WORKERS?

Is it a "state of emergency" or is it not?

And why isn't the media asking him this question?

I’m so happy my job _is_ telecommuting. Has been for 3 years. Just wish the schools would close already.

This is a very good question. I’m a public employee (federal) and I’m getting the sense that our supervisors like things to be either “forbidden” (no telework!) or “mandated” (must telework!). Not something in the middle like “encouraged” as private industry seems to be doing. I think it’s due to the military-ish nature of federal employment.

Because CA IT infrastructure sucks? (Think DMV). They couldn’t do it even if Newsom ordered it.

************************************************
It’s hard enough to get productivity out of many (not all) government employees when they’re at the office being “watched”. It would be next to impossible with them “telecommuting”.

Maybe so, but Newsom says Calif is in “a state of emergency” If it’s a virus emergency, allowing tens of thousands of state employees to congregate every day at work doesn’t compute.

Maybe it’s not really an “emergency” after all?

You are correct. There are many jobs that can’t be done from home.

“There are many jobs that can’t be done from home.”

And there are many that are done from a desk in front of computer monitor. Has Newsom called on them to telecommute during this virus “emergency”? Has he? Has he? Anybody? Buehler?

They don’t do anything in the office. Can you imagine the amount of stuff that won’t get done by working from home?

You mean less government happens? Sounds even better

It’s a 2-fer: virus quarantine, AND carbon footprint reductions.

You’d think CA would be all over this opportunity.

“SO WHY HASN’T HE ORDERED TELECOMMUTING FOR STATE WORKERS?”

Most California state agencies haven’t bothered with their Technology Recovery Plans, Business Impact Analysis reports, and Disaster Recovery plans. They also have no idea what their capacity is for VPN or Citrix access, they often have no idea how many laptops they have, and most of their managers are stuck on stupid and pretending that they’ll never be ordered to work from home.

It isn’t Gavin Newsom’s fault, really. He has to battle with California’s version of the same Deep State mentality and mendacity that Trump has to deal with at the Federal level.

Just go on Glassdoor to look up any random California agency and you’ll see this for yourself.

The Stupid runs deep in California.
