“My problem isnt with washing hands. Its with people misunderstanding that it will somehow keep them safe - which has been a MANTRA for weeks. It will not, in fact, keep anybody safe - only social distancing can truly do that.”
Yep, you are DEAD-ON. I’ve been trying to get the point across in different ways, but not as effectively as you just did.
Hey thanks Bob, made my day a little.
Hard to say anything can make my day right now - it isn’t really all that great to have been banging a gong for 7 weeks, and see that today crap is exploding everywhere - because all of us who’ve been on this thread a while know where this is going, and that is a really ugly place. I’ve got my 3 kids and hub isolated. My 70+ mother in Seattle is also pretty much isolated in her condo, which is good. But I’ve got 2 brothers in Atlanta who are both pretty big “life my life no matter what” kind of deniers - and 1 is 63 yrs old, very active in community and work, and he is far more worried about his bank account - and thinks the way to ensure the good times keep rolling it to keep traveling and eating out.
And I’m not ready to see him hooked up to a ventilator, but arguing with him won’t help a bit.
So I feel pretty gloomy!
But Alaska has stepped up - they declared emergency yesterday before 1st case (which came today) - they closed Anchorage schools today, and UAA also went online. So I know our community is finally taking measures - even if people still think we’re nutso for isolating. They’ll see in 2 weeks exactly why - hopefully by watching elsewhere, maybe we’ll get the good beat and things don’t go south fast here!
Good piece on what the press might have done to shoot themselves and the Establishment in the foot with all their panic.
