Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus are swiftly ballooning across the United States, and President Trump's former Homeland Security Adviser Thomas Bossert says time is running out to control the spread.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D), who is overseeing one of the country's largest clusters, said "if you do the math" there could be 64,000 cases of COVID-19 in the Evergreen State by May, while New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the positive cases in the city are "coming in so intensely now" that public officials are struggling to keep up with them. He said he wasn't in a position to give the media a "detailed case breakdown" because of the rapidly changing number.
That seems to lend credence to Bossert's claim Tuesday that hospitals could soon be overwhelmed.
Bossert, who in his old position coordinated the U.S. response to global pandemics (he was not replaced by Trump, who made cuts to national security), wrote an op-ed published Monday by The Washington Post saying the U.S. should take notes from places like Hong Kong and Singapore, which were able to level off their infection rate thanks to tougher measures early on.
He got his start with Bush.
I’ve been slowly accumulating things like disinfectant wipes and some long-term-storage food items. Although if I get self-isolated, we’ll probably just order doordash.
End of the world in 10 years!
We are so screwed!
Why do you think door dash is going to work? Where are they going to get food from? The quarantined food workers?
That’s an issue for an area-wide quarantine, not self-isolation. They are different.
I am much more likely to end up in self-isolation, than our area end up in quarantine. It only takes one idiot to interact with someone I know for me to end up isolated. But we’d have to actually have cases start showing up, and then getting much worse, before we quarantined. So far, I think there are two quarantines in our country. And if I thought we were getting close to one here, I Might just hop in my car and go stay somewhere else. Or buy another box of popcorn to tide me over.
I mean, I have enough “food” in the house to last a few weeks, if I have to. And if they actually slapped an area-wide quarantine on us, they’d have food distribution capabilities set up, because they know people are NOT preparing.
Now I have to buy another dozen cans of soup, just to get over the jitters.
This aint a Pandemic.... It is a Dem-Panic!
I’m stealing that BossBird!

Actually, Mrs. BN saw it in a cartoon on Facebook, but was unable to locate that cartoon when I asked about it later.
It is a great ‘meme’, but I’m only the one passing it along, not the author.
