Then the residents complain about racism.

Yes, and then they make a beeline to the Mayor/City Council/State Senator and insist that it's Government's job to FORCE a store to open in their neighborhood.

My sister has taught middle schoolers in inner city Baltimore for a decade. You would not believe their sense of entitlement at ages 11, 12, and 13. The newest and best sneakers, hair extensions, backpacks and phones. My sister stopped buying pencils for them and it was nothing but nonstop sass and lip: “Where’s my pencils? Wot chu mean that I have to buy them? You owe them to us! You can’t make me buy my own pencils!”

It’s a regular lab experiment in human behavior. And the results are exactly as you would expect.

They aren’t the Steelers fans, Charlie Daniels referred to in “In America”

“I had friends who lived in this part of town back in the 80’s. Wasn’t a bad place then”

My wife and I went to a PNC Pirates game a few years back. Got there late due to road construction. Had to park North of the stadium in a private lot and it was basically in the ghetto.

Walking back to the car at 11:30 and group of 8-12 utes was on the sidewalk. I knew it would be bad news walking by them. Before I could think how to get out of the situation one of Pittsburgh finest pulled right next up to us and asked where we were parked. Never felt so relieved in my life. The police stopped there and watched us get back to our car and drive off.

Yes, Pittsburgh has not had an elected Republican hold city office since 1934. The friends I had living there in the 80’s were Italian. The current residents are...…………………...not Italian.

Just like the foodland that was once there and then the independent convenience store that was in that same location before the family dollar.

Sheraden went from a blue collar working class neighborhood to a craphole started down in the 80s and never trended back up

It’s also racist NOT to ask for the demographics of this neighborhood.

Why is it that we continue to dance around the 800lb gorilla in the room? I did research for a paper I published which sought to address why inner-city grocery stores almost always had higher food prices than the same chain in the suburbs. The reason: Theft and vandalism. Property insurance costs were significantly higher and theft insurance wasn’t even available.

Many dollar stores in Texas have a policy barring unaccompanied children from their stores. Unfortunately, some parents are also thieves.

Sheraden is not near the stadiums. That’s the north side which they put money into every decade or two. Then it gets run down and they start it all over again.

Sheraden has not gotten any attempt to improve it once the mills closed.

Went from a solid blue class neighborhood, downhill slide started in the 80s.. when they closed the projects in broadhead many of them moved over the hill to sheraden. It was already well in decline by then but that pretty much put the decline on super fast forward

Dollar General and Family Dollar are two different (though similar) chains. For reasons I can’t comprehend Family Dollar seems to go into more ghetto areas than Dollar General.

To add to the confusion Family Dollar was acquired by Dollar Tree a couple of years ago.

I worked in retail for about a decade. Aside from teens one of your biggest groups of shoplifters were adult junkies who were desperate to raise cash for their fix.

>> All the while residents cry and cripe to local politicians about “food deserts” and not having any place to shop that is convenient to their home.

Yet if you want to discuss the reason for the so-called “food desert”, you’re a racist. No one wants to deal with the real solution to the problem.

Couple with that the policy of “no investigation/arrest for thefts under $900” in some jurisdictions.
Between that & store unwillingness to physically intervene, easy for local culture to turn to “just take what you want” - giant-screen 4K TVs included.

Democrat: mayor, chief of police and city council members?

Since 1934

Thanks.

Not surprising and probably liberal newspapers and tv stations working 24/7 to hide the identity of criminals.

And this, children, is how you get the “food deserts” Moochelle Obama blames on racism.

It would be interesting to know what their net profit is.

When I was in a wholesale business the rule of thumb for a retail store was at least a double markup from cost. Out of that markup all cost of doing business, including theft and spoilage had to be covered and what was left over would be considered profit.

Other words, a $1 wholesale item that retailed for $2, did not yield $1 in profit. Also that markup does not factor in the degree of theft they’re describing here.

I would be very surprised if that $1 above cost netted anywhere near $0.10 after all cost of doing business was calculated in.
