My sister has taught middle schoolers in inner city Baltimore for a decade. You would not believe their sense of entitlement at ages 11, 12, and 13. The newest and best sneakers, hair extensions, backpacks and phones. My sister stopped buying pencils for them and it was nothing but nonstop sass and lip: “Where’s my pencils? Wot chu mean that I have to buy them? You owe them to us! You can’t make me buy my own pencils!”
It’s a regular lab experiment in human behavior. And the results are exactly as you would expect.
The elementary schools in Chicago handed out free breakfast and lunch for many years. A few years ago some genius in the school administration decided to give away back packs with free food so the Amish kids would have dinner.
Fast forward to today - the schools now have to fill the back packs on Fridays so the “kids” have free food for the weekend. Of course the Amish complain about the free food selections. There will NEVER be enough free stuff.
