“FORT WORTH - Tarrant County Public Health has identified the first presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in a Tarrant County resident, the department announced in a news release Tuesday. The person diagnosed with the coronavirus had traveled to a conference in Kentucky during late February.”

“You might want to tell that to the Italians.”

It’s not hidden from them.

Just today Washington state must be testing as the positive confirmed went up this afternoon by more than 100.

We also lost two more 80 year olds from Washington state nursing homes.

What we’re saying is that the percent difference in the genetic expression of that ONE enzyme makes NO difference in the face of an epidemic.

Once your ICU’s are full...chaos ensues.

And even 50% of your population having the genetics to overexpress ACE2 is enough to do that.

It’s not like the d32CCR5 mutation and HIV.

The Chinese should be made to pay dearly for this.

That is not true. It's a bigger killer, per capita, in Italy than in China.
"Genetics is more of a factor.

The Chinese have more of the ACE2 enzyme in their lungs than others do. SARS and Covid-19 bind to it. This is likely the reason that both diseases have been big killers in China but not as much elsewhere."

Washington has tested 1100 folks—best in the nation.

They must have the necessary lab equipment—apparently many other states do not have it.

And in THIS coronavirus, the whole genetic predisposition thing wrt ACE2 may be moot:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0166354220300528

“The spike glycoprotein of the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV contains a furin-like cleavage site absent in CoV of the same clade”

This virus has ‘tricky business’ not found in any other coronaviruses that are close relations. (ie, the other ‘common cold coronaviruses, mers, and sars)

Not first.

Our elected officials and corporate ‘leaders’ who allowed this to happen, nay profited from it (and probably had underage nookie on the side as part of the deal) should be made to pay first.

Thanks! Same to you!

She is worried about ancillary things, I told her it’s bug out time!

92 new cases in MA! She needs to concentrate on getting to her flight in Hartford on Friday (she was thinking of changing the flight so she could have more time closing things out at Smith!).

I said leave everything and get out now!

“ As far as I am concerned, if you haven’t tested negative, you are positive.”

I’ve been treating everybody and everything just like that now for few weeks. Not because I think they are, but because I know soon many people and things I touch will be, and I want to develop good habits for when they are critical to have.

You get tired of it. It makes the little stressful things you encounter everyday like driving in traffic more stressful, because you’ve got all these other worries on top of the everyday stuff like not touching your face, touching anything as little as possible, staying away from people, considering your hands dirty after you’ve touched anything out in public and making sure you decontaminate them as soon as possible.

Then you start making mistakes in the things you normally have to do because you’ve got all these new procedures and way of doing things you are trying to formulate into habits.

Lochner—No audience at Sunday’s Dem debate.

Is that a change from previous debates?

Washington does have a lot of big hospitals. Also we had the first experience with it when the Everett guy was cured by Everett Providence.

Wise words.

You probably haven’t read my lengthy comments about our CT situation—we only have 2 positive cases but only 56 tests.

As you know from this thread we just found out why there were so few tests (inadequate lab materials around the country).

But, the first case doctor ran free in two Fairfield County hospitals presumably infecting staff, patients etc and the hospitals are still open taking patients! 52 tests would not even begin to address the number of folks affected. That was fifty miles from the airport, but some folks commute a long way, so yeah—she needs to get back home with you.

Yes—normally the DNC stuffs a big audience full of supporters of their favorite candidate..they boo, applaud and otherwise try to influence the debate and the TV viewers.

I told her in no uncertain terms that this is bug out time.

She has a flight scheduled for Friday. She wanted to try to change that to later to close things out at Smith.

I said absolutely not!
