My email from medicare.gov:

Take preventive action now against COVID-19

According to the CDC, older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions like heart, lung or kidney disease are at a higher risk of serious illness if they contract the COVID-19 virus. This means that most people with Medicare are at a higher risk.

Your health, safety, and welfare is our highest priority. In addition to practicing good everyday prevention through things such as hand washing and avoiding touching your face, the CDC says there is more you can do to take precautions against COVID-19 and reduce your risk of exposure:

Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces with limited air circulation.

Defer all cruise ship travel worldwide, particularly if you also have underlying health issues.

Avoid situations that put you at increased risk, including non-essential travel such as long plane trips.

"There is a two week incubation period."

The best available, recent research shows that the "The median incubation period was estimated to be 5.1 days (95% CI, 4.5 to 5.8 days), and 97.5% of those who develop symptoms will do so within 11.5 days (CI, 8.2 to 15.6 days) of infection."

see https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2762808/incubation-period-coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-from-publicly-reported

Wish Ms. Higgins would not post making assertions of fact, which are not correct.

I had more to that post and posted too quick.

Serious question here.

What does a virus like this do to a popultation that is obese and as unhealthy as ours?

I'd venture a guess that the average 70 year old Italian, eating an Italian diet, living the Italian way in an Italian village surrounded by friends and family they've known forever is healthier than a lot of 30-40 year old Americans.

I never see this addressed but I feel it is an important point.

There is a link up thread, but I will repost as a courtesy . On these threads, many of us discuss information previously posted. I for one prefer to post latest news rather than chasing down links for people

When he says he doesn’t want the cruise passengers because they’d mess up his numbers, that’s not to quell the public’s anxiety.

It is time consuming for people to have to comb through 15 threads of 1000+ post to find and repost links.

I have reposted this particular link 5 times.

I would rather be posting latest news.

Something floating around twitter. At least it’s harmless. Hold breath for ten seconds. Everyone should be able to do that. Drink plenty of fluids is always a good thing. (unless you just swallowed certain poisons)

Actually in looking at the data, it doesn't discuss any of the demographic comparisons between HK and Italy, other than to note "Granted Italy has a much larger population than Hong Kong"

No comparison of health care systems, no mention of political considerations. So I believe many of the underlying data points cannot be compared in a meaningful manner.

Appreciate you re-posting the link. A lot of people do that, it's just a nature of how the forum is setup.

Thanks for these additional links!

I found this:

"As for age groups, 2% are between 50 and 59 years old, 8% between 60-69 years, 32% between 70-79 years, 45% between 80-89 years and 14% over 90 years old . It's still. ICU patients are 877, 144 more than yesterday (+ 19.6%). In twenty-four hours - added the commissioner to the coronavirus emergency - there were 280 more healed (+ 38.6%)."

So this is helpful. Again, thanks!

The facts are facts .

I ’ve worked in salvaging bankrupt healthcare entities .
The WH response has been pathetic and incompetent.
Not stopping the overseas case loads from infecting Americans is
reckless. Why no one can do that tells me there is no concern for
the spread . This virus with its extremely high ICU stays and medical costs will bankrupt hundreds of hospitals and insurance companies . Look at Italy right now .
We are a few weeks out from Italy’s fate thanks to this incompetence on many levels.
