A physician's assistant who became New Jersey's first case of coronavirus has spoken out about the disease from his hospital bed and warns others to take the threat seriously.
James Cai, 32, fell ill last weekend while attending a medical conference at a hotel in Times Square.
He has been hospitalized since Tuesday at the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey. So far, 13 people have been tested for COVID-19 in New Jersey. The other 11 cases have come back negative.
'Every day is getting worse,' Cai said Monday during an interview with CBS, adding that 'it happened so quick'.
'A lot of people say its OK, dont wear masks. I dont believe that,' Cai said.
Cai, who works and lives in Manhattan and Fort Lee, New Jersey, said the virus is not one to be taken lightly.
In New York, where Gov Andrew Cuomo recently declared a state of emergency, cases of the coronavirus have shot to 142.

A medical conference? I'm happier not knowing if any of my doctors were there.Bring Out Your DeadIgnorance is bliss!
The really blissful ones should be by shortly to reassure us...
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Start smoking cigarettes. The tar coats your lungs and keeps the virus from attaching.
Fort Lee is about 1/3 Asian, so he may have contracted it in Fort Lee from someone who had traveled from China, and subsequently became symptomatic at the conference in NYC.
I am still waiting to here about people under 40 who are not asian who have it with no underlying conditions.
Someone here has a son who has friends that were in Milan visiting or on some school thing... that think they got it. Said they have had worse.
Italian Dr said they move the patients who are not serious.
When I was much younger and caught bronchistis and thought I would die I felt so bad I laid with half my body off the bed.
It worked..but a DR here said he wouldnt recommend it.
Wishing you the best RC.
Nope, once again..I am flat.
Although, I am eyeing oil stocks. Still haven’t bought anything.
"James Cai, 32, fell ill last weekend while attending a medical conference at a hotel in Times Square."
Got that? "fell ill last weekend while attending a medical conference" He was asymptomatic when he got there.
Which is it? Should everyone who is NOT experiencing symptoms self quarantine, or is this a nothing burger?
Choose wisely...
Never go full Dahmer. :)
What I did was completely stupid...and will totally be my fault if I get sick. I have read enough Virus information to know better...but I acted like the people who go around on these threads and mock people for being concerned.
I mean come on...I should have gotten away from her with the very first cough when she refused to cover her mouth.
I told my family to stay away and just call me to make sure I am alive. LOL
The prone position is part of the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
Bwahahahaha !
Keep up the good work, the ostriches are really nasty when
they yank they’re head out so quick.
Why would the Chinese create a bio-weapon that causes a ‘mild flu’?
Does that make sense to you?
Then when it escaped the lab, they shut down roads so people could not leave? Is that how a country reacts if a ‘mild form of the flu’ escapes a bio-weapon lab?
Fix it for ya!
If anyone in the media is so panicked that they need to sell their homes to prepare for their burial, I will gladly buy them for 10 cents on the dollar, that is if this is something to panic about.
