Lets be careful about making predictions. There is enough crazy going on, lets not add to it

Covid-19: Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa quarantines
President of the Republic suspends agenda for two weeks
2020-03-08
There are no signs of Covid-19 , but prevention measures have already entered Belém. The President of the Republic suspended the agenda for two weeks after it was determined that a class at the Felgueiras school, now closed due to a student infected with the virus , was Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s official residence last Tuesday in a session attended by the Head of State.
In a statement the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic states that “last night, after a student from a school in Felgueiras was admitted, that school was closed. Today, in the afternoon, it was found that a class from that school had been in Belém, last Tuesday, as part of the initiative Artists at the Palace of Belém, in a session attended by the President of the Republic, having, in the end, taken pictures with students and teachers, without, however, having greeted them to one. “

Fauci Says Sense on Coronavirus Scope Is Not Encouraging (1)
2020-03-08 17:46:41.543 GMT
By Elizabeth Dexheimer
(Bloomberg) — Social distancing will become more
prevalent in the U.S. over the next three months as the nation
attempts to tamp down the spread of the new coronavirus, Anthony
Fauci said Sunday.
Were getting a better sense as the days go by of the
scope of the outbreak in the U.S., Fauci, director of the
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on
NBCs Meet the Press. Unfortunately, that better sense is not
encouraging, because were seeing community spread.
Also on Sunday, Scott Gottlieb, the former head of the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration, said the U.S. needs a
comprehensive plan for cities, with support from the federal
government.
Gottlieb and Fauci spoke as the Trump administration
remains under fire in some quarters for its response to the
fast-spreading virus — but a response that President Donald
Trump on Sunday called perfectly coordinated and fine tuned.
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the
White House for our attack on CoronaVirus. We moved VERY early
to close borders to certain areas, which was a Godsend. V.P. is
doing a great job. The Fake News Media is doing everything
possible to make us look bad. Sad!
The president is spending the weekend at his Florida
resort; on Friday he visited the headquarters of the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, the hub of the federal effort to
combat the virus.
If youre a vulnerable person, take it seriously, because
particularly when you have community spread, you may not know at
any given time that there are people who are infected, Fauci
said of the idea of social distancing, or actions that include
avoiding large gatherings. Its common-sense stuff.
The draconian quarantine measures taken by China, while
theyve worked to prevent a broader advance of the disease
beyond Wuhan province, are something we never would be able to
do in the U.S., he added. Italy also imposed more stringent
travel restrictions early Sunday.
I dont imagine that the degree of the draconian nature of
what the Chinese did would ever be either feasible, applicable,
doable or whatever you want to call it in the United States,
Fauci said in an interview with CBSs 60 Minutes that will be
broadcast on Sunday, according to a partial transcript provided
by the network.

Even though there are a lot of things that have unintended
negative consequences of that, I think it did help dampen what
would have been an even worse outbreak, Fauci said of China on
NBC. Wuhan was terrible. But I think they prevented a broader
spread.
The spread of the highly infectious virus continues to
advance across the globe. As of Sunday, about half of the
worlds countries have reported cases of Covid-19, according to
the World Health Organization. The global death count outside of
China is approaching 500.
Italy, Europes most hard-hit nation, said its restricting
movement and activity for a quarter of its population in the
region around the financial capital of Milan.
Fauci said a vaccine deployable against Covid-19 will not
be available for at least a year to a year and a half.
Tough Two Months
Gottlieb, who departed as Trumps FDA commissioner in
April, said Sunday on CBSs Face the Nation that the U.S. is
past the point of containment and broad mitigation strategies.
The next few weeks will change the complexion in this
country, said Gottlieb, whos now a special partner at New
Enterprise Associates, a venture capital firm that invests in
the health-care and biotech sectors. Well get through this,
but its going to be a hard period. Were looking at two months,
probably, of difficulty.
Gottlieb said he was still in talks with people in the
Trump administration, recommending that a very big federal
bailout package for businesses, individuals, cities and states
be done sooner rather than later.
Since this thing is still spreading and discussions in communities are definitely touching on closures and quarantines now, maybe we should look at some of those things.
If your town gets quarantined, what will happen and what should you do to get through it?
If your kids school gets closed, what preparations do you need to make to continue their education for the duration, either by homeschooling or online classes?
What are people doing for continuance of other social activities, such as church?
Coronavirus live updates: State Department warns against cruise travel

.
I wonder if Universities now going on Spring Break will decide to go ahead and shut down, rather than have all of the students spread out for a week and come back.
I would like to express an opinion that the CDC blew it again by watching the air ports of entry, and cargo sea ports of entry, but forgot about tourist sea ports of entry
And I would like to predict that VP Pence will ensure that all cruise ship crews are tested and retested prior to allowing any passengers on board new cruises, seeing how 19 crew members of the GP tested positive (not sure how many for the DP but a lot)
Today is March 8, and my temp is 98.5. Thanks for the thread :)
South Carolina report
I stop by Dollar General store today. They had plenty of supplies there. No sign of panic buying.
Drove through Walmart parking lot no signs of panic buying.
Still a lot of Just a Flu Bro here.
What do you know about the person who tested positive who was at CPAC? Was he tested before he attended and chose not to wait for results?

The U.S. State Dept. has issued the following:
U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying
health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship. CDC notes
increased risk of infection of COVID-19 in a cruise ship
environment. In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many
countries have implemented strict screening procedures that
have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers
from disembarking. In some cases, local authorities have
permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local
quarantine procedures. While the U.S. government has
evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks,
repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for
U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local
authorities.
