<< “ I hope you are right about Bergoglios future, but I dont see a connection through Northern Ireland, which is traditionally not friendly with the Vatican.
Perhaps you were thinking of the Republic of Ireland? “ >>
.......
I don’t know about Bergoglio’s future, but was thinking more about Mick Mulvaney terms of engagement that could have ramifications in the Vatican.
You’re right that I over looked the difference between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, entirely.
However, the Pope did not visit Northern Ireland in his papal visit to the Republic of Ireland. Reasons are up for grabs and interesting.
At the the time there was the Good Friday Agreement (border issues) still wobbly, Brexit implications, but also the abuse crisis in swing, if you will pardon the term.
Why did Bergoglio avoid the Catholics of Northern Ireland, in his longed-for appearance there, by Roman Catholics?
Without having his bearings, I lean towards the sex abuse crisis affecting his decision, myself. Something was “up”.
Now, Mulvaney is off to Northern Ireland.
The First Envoy to Northern Ireland was .... George Mitchell.
The Second Envoy was, .... Richard Haas (MSDNC regular on MRNING Joke).
The Thrid Envoy to Northern Ireland was.... Gary Hart.
This is going to be very interesting for me to see Mulvaney put his bomb throwing, wing nut and dismantlement tendencies into the mix. I think I see the Vatican tentacles in a lot of the mischief-making in the politics and in the demise of the Church, in that neighborhood.
:)
Okay, interesting observations, FRiend. As they say, developing....
