A place to consolidate CoronaVirus Stories
But it is too late. The CDC played him on this for a month. Unfortunately.
The Asian stuff reads like the first stage of grief to me.
Only _they_ will get it = denial.
Plunge protection is in turbo mode. The stock market no longer reflects reality.
Dear Colleagues
Everyone is closely watching and monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak. This global emergency is presenting major challenges for our profession as we attempt to anticipate, tackle and eventually get ahead of it.
As there are many new experiences with this type of virus, we need to learn from those with more experience. Information is vital. As you will have seen, Northern Italy is in the middle of a crisis and Lombardy in particular has been severely affected. Our colleagues coordinating the emergency ICU response in Northern Italy have sent me the following message which they wish to convey to all our members.
I salute all the work our colleagues are doing, globally, faced with this situation. ESICM will endeavor to do its part to share accurate information and resources.
Wishing you all the strength needed in the coming months,
Yours respectfully
Prof. Jozef Kesecioglu

Dear friends,
At this moment in time, we believe it is important to share our first impressions and what we have learned in the first ten days of the COVID-19 outbreak.
We have seen a very high number of ICU admissions, almost entirely due to severe hypoxic respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation.
The surge can be important during an outbreak and cluster containment has to be in place to slow down virus transmission.
We are seeing a high percentage of positive cases being admitted to our Intensive Care Units, in the range of 10% of all positive patients.
We wish to convey a strong message: Get ready!
We also want to share with you some key points from our experience:
Get ready now - with your ICUs networks - to define your contingency plan in the event of an outbreak in your community
Dont work in silo. Coordinate with your hospital management and other healthcare professionals to prepare your response
Make sure your hospital management and procurement office have a protocol in place about which personal protection equipment (PPE) to stock and re-stock
Make sure your staff is trained in donning and doffing procedures
Use education, training and simulation as much as possible
Identify early hospitals that can manage the initial surge in a safe way
Increase your total ICU capacity
Get ready to prepare ICU areas where to cohort COVID-19 + patients - in every hospital if necessary
Put in place a triage protocol to identify suspected cases, test them and direct them to the right cohort
Make sure you set clear goals for care with the patients and their families early on
With our best regards

“When can you buy Girl Scout cookies?
Councils conduct their cookie season for about a six- to eight-week period per year, most between January and April...”
What a great chance to meet asymptomatic kids in your area!
(Actually, this is meant as “dark humour”- don’t take it seriously! Still love those ‘thin mints’.)
I will sit where I am on the market and wait until the Virus stuff is over. Meanwhile I will do research for what to buy 4 months down the road.
Not looking good for WA state, especially the western part. A school district in the King Co. area has closed and will be tele-teaching 23,000 students.
That is terrifying. If it spreads like a weak flu then there are not enough beds in all US hospitals to handle tht load MUCH LESS beds in ICU's.
What chance does any politician or petty bureaucrat have of doing better?
The five stages of grief as it applies to coronavirus:
https://psychcentral.com/lib/the-5-stages-of-loss-and-grief/
1. Denial—I and nobody I care about are Asian or over eighty years old and only Asians get the disease anyway.
2. Anger—Those Chinese did this to kill us—bioweapon! This is the finger pointing we are seeing from China, Iran and some FR posters!
3. Bargaining—Well maybe we contain this if we stop a few flights, close a few schools, wash our hands.
4. Depression—I saw a post here that some folks were getting depressed about this whole thing. Expect to see more of this.
5. Acceptance—We need to get here. This is nobody’s fault (at least without _solid_ proof). People really do dumb stuff. Most of our leaders are human and make mistakes. The virus is smarter than we are—until we work hard at figuring out what is going on. It is not the end of the world, but it is an ugly mess.
With a normal virus you would be right... Let's hope you're right with an engineered one...
I'm concerned the Chinese were spraying down cars... cars that are out in the sunshine most of the time. We need to watch what they're doing (not what they're saying)... because they know the nature of this virus. And what it lives on and what kills it.
My God this is from a First World Country. Anybody confirm this letter source?
Yes, for years I've heard that Atlanta and O'Hare in Chicago are the busiest airports in the US. Most anyone in the southeast going on a long trip will go through Atlanta.
Prayers up!
Don’t touch anything! Take plenty of sanitizer and sanitizer wipes!!
Don’t eat there!
Those of us that have read a majority of the threads knew what it was. It has been posted on at least four earlier threads actually. Went offline and black for a few threads. But now that the mainstream is looking at these threads, the thread veterans may need to add some foot notes.
That was for Fury. That troll should have known.
I got to 5 a while ago.
And started prepping.
It’s the only thing *I* can do to change my possible circumstances at this point.
‘some people did some things’. And I need to make sure my family can withstand those things to the best of my abilities.
Yup.
Now we need the political leaders to get from 3 (where they are now), hopefully skip 4, and get to 5.
Fast.
