I was thinking about those Atlanta airport workers on CBS news last night.
Dozens of them were scrubbing down surfaces throughout the airport with “CDC approved” cleaning solution.
Five minutes later a non-symptomatic infected person walks up to them and asks for directions....
I think it is an important thing to consider the economic impact of these types of closures.
The people who run the coffee shops.
The people who clean the schools.
Uber drivers.
Sandwich Shops.
Convenience Stores.
The list contains a ton of little, mom and pop operations. A two week shut down is 3.8% of their annual business days. Not only that, for a lot of these places the business is transactional. A cup of coffee “not sold” today, is not going to be made up.
And does this shift Spring Break plans? Lots of money lost there as well.
All along, I’ve been saying the economic damage from this event will surpass the human/health impact overall.

Because hospitals buy special N95 masks at the local Wallyworld. How crazy can the CDC be? Ok, yeah, we know they’re down right insane. Hospitals have contracts and ins with companies. They do not run down to Wallyworld to purchase the stocked half dozen cheapo masks.

The first patient in the US was very nearly dead of bilobal pneumonia. On IV vanc with O2 supplemented. Still got worse.
Was given and IV dose of the Gilead compound, remdesivir, and literally overnight was off the supplemental O2.
“Treatment with intravenous remdesivir (a novel nucleotide analogue prodrug in development10,11) was initiated on the evening of day 7, and no adverse events were observed in association with the infusion. Vancomycin was discontinued on the evening of day 7, and cefepime was discontinued on the following day, after serial negative procalcitonin levels and negative nasal PCR testing for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
On hospital day 8 (illness day 12), the patient’s clinical condition improved. Supplemental oxygen was discontinued, and his oxygen saturation values improved to 94 to 96% while he was breathing ambient air. The previous bilateral lower-lobe rales were no longer present. His appetite improved, and he was asymptomatic aside from intermittent dry cough and rhinorrhea.”

Up until two weeks ago Italy had but 3 known COVID-19 cases. Today the ECDC reported they had in excess of 2,500 cases, and they have also reported 80 deaths.
By contrast, Hong Kong - which not only shares a border with Mainland China, but has been dealing with cases since mid-January - has only recently passed the 100 case mark. Across the bay, Macao has even fewer cases (n=10).
If you had asked anybody a month ago which of these two regions would have the most cases in early March, few would have picked Italy. Granted Italy has a much larger population than Hong Kong, but even so, the choices made by both governments have made the biggest difference.
Hong Kong has been very proactive in their response, and closed its schools when they had fewer than 40 cases - have kept them shuttered since late January - and intend to keep them closed until mid April at the earliest.
Italy, on the other hand, only today announced a limited - two week - closure of schools across the country.
Hong Kong closed most public venues - museums, sporting events, movie theatres, bars and most restaurants - in late January (see HK Epidemic Measures: Curbing Travel From Mainland - Closing Public Places - Work From Home Orders) and has kept them closed.
Someone at CDC will be going out of their way to divert tests for whatever devious reason.
There is no reason for results to take as long as they do in the US. No other country takes as long.

Our church uses a chalice for dipping your little piece of bread....that MANY other's have also dipped, before you. And, the bread piece comes from a larger piece that has been handled by at least three people (including the Pastor).
GOK how many hands, etc., they've touched, before touching the bread.
We have passed on greetings and communion, lately.
I keep suggesting they get the disposable communion....looks like creamer cups you get at restaurant, and has grape juice and wafer under the peel off top.
Those numbers are local health departments. Those tests take 4 hours to get results, so this will speed thins up tremendously.
CDCs role now is just a rubber stamp, thankfully. Them administration even took the manufacturing out of CDC Atlanta and are investigating contamination in the manufacturing of the tests at the Atlanta location

According to Governor Cuomo, this means that there are now 6 confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York State.
