I think I read 3100 went online Thursday and 10,000 will be online this week. Have you heard any additional numbers?
I agree, which is why I think its important to post news from other countries. Some are slightly ahead of is, some are behind us but the nature of how it is unfolding looks almost the same in every westernized nation.
Ad hominen is a no no—if folks think something is incorrect, then provide data, links, arguments, anything—but don’t attack the poster.
time for adequate human studies won’t catch this northern winter’s wave, even assuming a vaccine is found and viable. an example of what can go wrong is, as I understand it, the sars vaccine used in china and allegedly? proposed by the CDC here but blocked by the NIH report on it.
possibly existing meds can inhibit replication (repurpose)?
once again, I am not sure if it is established that all survivors ever are completely clear of the virus (see the neuroinvasive article somewhere here). do these people become permanent periodic shedders? how do you even identify people who routinely test negative but later test positive?
if it were obvious then you end up with leper camps (difficult to imagine in today’s world) but I would think most are invisible.
like many here, I have a half dozen very disturbing questions which all have some basis in something reported somewhere (even china) but no real answers - or implied answers that are so terrifying I would like more corroboration, and no I don’t mean the CDC (the last entity to confirm anything ever. the ultimate pandemic lagging indicator).
Infect the world, _then_ add hospital beds....
We will be Italy by the end of this month imho.

As of 0:00, 4 March, 2020, 516 additional cases are confirmed, compared to 0:00, 3 March which brings in total number of confirmed cases to 5,328.

Wasn’t the mayor of LA supposed to make an announcement about coronavirus this morning? Thought I saw that in this thread somewhere.
ZHJ Reporting that Iran is releasing 54,000 from their infected prisons.
But...none of them are infected.
I wonder if one of them is the American they’ve been holding for years?
Those are the numbers I have seen as well.
It’s only 7:20 here on the left coast, so any announcement is probably going to be a bit later.
Scientists say the preliminary study found that a more aggressive type of the coronavirus associated with the disease outbreak in Wuhan accounted for about 70% of analysed strains, while 30% was linked to a less aggressive type
there were “debunked” rumors going around that each generation is less aggressive....but this study may back that up
Likely a natural mutation but wild speculation here:
but lets say Taiwan was Wuhan...A very aggressive new virus suddenly appears and causes total chaos and many deaths....society breaks down over time..eventually China sends “help”...then more and more “help” (as in troops) but it doesn’t infect the Chinese nearly as much because at that point it’s “weaker”...
True. Will keep my ears open later :)
The virus never sleeps. ;-)

TORONTO — A private college closed its North York campus on Wednesday in order to complete a thorough, proactive, preventative sanitization of the area after learning the spouse of a student tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a statement issued to students on Tuesday, the college said the student, who attends the North York campus on Yonge Street near Sheppard Avenue, has not tested positive for COVID-19 herself, but is remaining in self-isolation as a precaution
On this link the “mutation” issue is discussed at length:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD2-QVBQi48RRQTD4Jhxu8w
He explains that lots of mutations happen.
If the new form of the disease is too strong it kills everybody quickly, so it can’t spread very far.
If it is too weak, there is no effect on health and so we don’t know about it.
The “Goldilocks zone” (maximum survival rate for virus) for mutations is somewhere in between, but there are probably several variations out there.

long incubation with asymptomatic period (postulated) seems to decrease any benefit to being non-fatal. doesn’t matter if it kills host after a month of spreading, some of it almost silently.
This was my fault.
I started pressing “abuse” every time something was posted by our friend. That got the attention of the powers that rule FR. Evidently, they decided the best way to deal with it was to hit pause.
So, in the future, we ignore the bottom feeders. I will continue to hit abuse where it is relevant. I urge everyone else to do the same. A measured response, en masse, will get attention while not coming across as “hot headed.”
I imagine after enough calm, measured, reports and the continued decline in contributions related to this one poster will eventually get someone’s attention.
But there is no winning a pissing contest with someone who has FR plexiglass surrounding him. So, just don’t do it.
We have plenty to keep us busy.
