Scientists say the preliminary study found that a more aggressive type of the coronavirus associated with the disease outbreak in Wuhan accounted for about 70% of analysed strains, while 30% was linked to a less aggressive type

This may be part of the reason why Wuhan get hit the hardest

there were “debunked” rumors going around that each generation is less aggressive....but this study may back that up

Likely a natural mutation but wild speculation here:

but lets say Taiwan was Wuhan...A very aggressive new virus suddenly appears and causes total chaos and many deaths....society breaks down over time..eventually China sends “help”...then more and more “help” (as in troops) but it doesn’t infect the Chinese nearly as much because at that point it’s “weaker”...

TORONTO — A private college closed its North York campus on Wednesday in order to complete a “thorough, proactive, preventative sanitization” of the area after learning the spouse of a student tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a statement issued to students on Tuesday, the college said the student, who attends the North York campus on Yonge Street near Sheppard Avenue, has not tested positive for COVID-19 herself, but is remaining in self-isolation as a precaution

On this link the “mutation” issue is discussed at length:

He explains that lots of mutations happen.

If the new form of the disease is too strong it kills everybody quickly, so it can’t spread very far.

If it is too weak, there is no effect on health and so we don’t know about it.

The “Goldilocks zone” (maximum survival rate for virus) for mutations is somewhere in between, but there are probably several variations out there.
