There is a clear pattern on how this stuff goes—

(1) China—crash and burn—a month later trying to fake the numbers and lie—but still a raging inferno
(2) Iran—total dumpster fire
(3) Italy—infecting the rest of the world (think China a couple of months ago) and some areas until partial quarantine
(4) US, rest of Europe, Australia—”containment” which is a total joke
(5) South America and some other areas—very first cases, the party is just getting started

The trick is to act like you are one step higher than you are—then you can get control of the situation.

That means partial quarantines have to start in the US now, or we become Italy.

Small tidbit, but telling: Traffic is back in Beijing. Smog appears to be returning.

Early indicators, but positive none the less. One has to wonder what WuHan looks like these days.

That’s Orange county in southern California, not Placer, which is in northern. The Placer county patient was a nurse for the first patient in Solano county. All very confusing...

Has anyone else noticed an uptick of emergency alert tests lately? We’re getting them on the radio frequently and I don’t recall them before.

CHINA - Coronavirus update: Is COVID-19 has different strains? Scientists ‘yes’
3 min read . Updated: 04 Mar 2020, 06:15 PM IST Andrew Galbraith , David Stanway , Reuters

Scientists say the preliminary study found that a more aggressive type of the coronavirus associated with the disease outbreak in Wuhan accounted for about 70% of analysed strains, while 30% was linked to a less aggressive type

SHANGHAI : Scientists in China studying the coronavirus outbreak said they had found two main types of the disease could be causing infections.

The researchers, from Peking University’s School of Life Sciences and the Institut Pasteur of Shanghai under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, cautioned that their analysis examined a limited range of data, and said follow-up studies of larger data sets are needed to better understand the virus’s evolution.

The preliminary study found that a more aggressive type of the new coronavirus associated with the disease outbreak in Wuhan accounted for about 70% of analysed strains, while 30% was linked to a less aggressive type.

The prevalence of the more aggressive virus decreased after early January 2020, they said.

Not here in N.Ga. Hubby dusted off the old police scanner last night to see what kinds of things might be going on. It’s pretty quiet around here so far.

NEW YORK - lawyer’s son tested positive

Coronavirus Update: 3rd N.Y. Case Confirmed As Yeshiva University Student Tests Positive
March 4, 2020 at 9:20 am

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A student at Yeshiva University in Washington Heights has tested positive for coronavirus, prompting closure of Wilf Campus.

The confirmation raises the total of confirmed coronavirus cases in New York state to three. One is a health care worker who recently returned from Iran, another is a 50-year-old man from New Rochelle, and the third is his son, a Yeshiva University student, according to the university.

Tuesday, officials said the infected attorney from New Rochelle’s family was also being tested, including his son the Yeshiva University student and a daughter who attended the SAR High School in the Bronx.

cdc’s staggering sluggish response and the testing issue are going to be microscopically dissected and certainly politicized once this first wave passes.

my main theory on testing is this is their fema/katrina moment, when they are shown to be a bureaucracy actually unable to effectively do their job when it actually needs to be done.

some of the response choices are going to go straight to the administration, though. what advice and projections was he given?

Got one on the tv, yesterday. And, although it was on mute, EA test still buzzed through. I thought that was interesting.

off top of head - just the sheer number of concurrent cases may mean hospitals cannot accept even serious cases, and you end up with permanent harm (or death) from something that, given room in a hospital, should have been manageable.

also, why don’t you think this will be an annual/seasonal disease, like other corona viruses? non-govt. virologists and epidemiologists are saying exactly that. the implications of something like this every year are staggering.

Coronavirus patient ignored self-isolation order to go to business event
By Lee Brown
March 4, 2020 | 8:28am

A hospital worker who became New Hampshire’s first coronavirus patient had been ordered to self-isolate — but went to a college’s business event instead, health officials have revealed.

The selfish Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center staffer showed symptoms after returning from a trip to Italy, and was told to stay home while awaiting the test result, which came back positive Monday, health officials said.

“The first patient, despite having been directed to self-isolate, attended an invitation-only private event on Friday,” the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) warned in a release.

Having defied the first directive, the hospital worker was “issued an official order of isolation” after officially testing positive on Monday, officials said.

A close colleague of his at the hospital then became the Granite State’s second confirmed case on Tuesday, their hospital confirmed.

It left health workers scrambling to contact attendees at the event in neighboring Vermont to tell them to “follow the recommended 14-day self-isolation,” the service said

Yep, the world is fu#$ed now for sure. It’s a cold virus really not a flu virus, it will be around all year every year now. I do believe at this point it was a bio-weapon that the incompetent Chinese were working on. They screwed up the world, I truly believe that.
