My husband said they have a person stationed at each escalator with disinfectant continually applying to the handrail as it spins
Better than nothing, at least they are trying.
Just picked up 90 days of meds and scored 50 bucks of buttwipe at WalMart. I’m set to shelter in place until Memorial Day.
That person should be fired immediately and prohibited from ever having a job at DHMC again, or for that matter, ANY healthcare related field.
We DON’T need irresponsible people like that practicing any kind of medicine on anyone.
Compare and contrast this health dept reaction to that of the NC guy.
Students - self quarantine. What could go wrong?
If you look at the leaders of _all_ western countries (Europe, US), they are playing down the potential threat.
This is neither a coincidence nor a conspiracy.
The bias of western governments is that helping the economy is a higher priority than risking damage to the economy by taking strong measures to contain a pandemic.
It is not pretty, but that is what it is—and I don’t blame them—that is just the world we live in.
This will be a teaching moment for all of these countries.
We will get through it, probably with more deaths and hospitalizations than we could have with serious containment and quarantine, and count our blessings that this virus was not worse.
I am the acceptance stage—responsible folks have to use the resources we have to stay on top of what is happening—and don’t rely on any authority figures to tell you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
I think their logic must go like this:
If I have it I have it, and since I only care about myself, what do I care if I give it to someone? That’s not going to affect MY health.
Thanks so much to you and the others for keeping up with this thread. I really appreciate your efforts and am grateful for all the information being given. I have been following this very closely for the last several weeks now and will continue to do so. Thanks, again!
Special little arrogant healthcare workers.
NC positive guy..
.... The Wake County patient traveled through Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Feb. 22, airport officials said.
The patient was not experiencing symptoms at the time, and “there was no identifiable risk from this case to other travelers,” officials said....

Unreal.
No identifiable risk. Got it.

Interesting read, and can apply to the US as well:
I work as a doctor in an intensive care unit (ICU). It is a speciality (like anaesthesia its parent speciality) which most of the public have little understanding of unless they have required our services. What is in no doubt is that ICU sits at the centre of all that is necessary for keeping alive what may be a very large number of patients who will develop severe Covid-19.
ICU treats patients whose lives are at risk or whose organs have failed. Severe Covid-19 leads mostly to lung failure but also causes kidney and cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) failure. All these are rapidly fatal without intense and prompt treatments only available in ICU. In simple terms, treatments include a ventilator taking over the patients breathing while the patient is anaesthetised (placed in an induced coma), a dialysis machine cleaning the blood and drugs or machines supporting the heart and blood pressure. The reality of care is, of course, considerably more complex and highly intensive...

I thought of switching to buses, but it would take me much longer to get back and forth to work, and I would be in one for a much longer period of time.
Trains are packed but fast.
_Their_ stupidity is _our_ problem. :-(
China is full of smokers and they eat bats.
South Korea, Sinapore, Japan: It only affects Asians.
Iran: Iran's healthcare sucks.
Italy: Italy is full of old people and smokers.
United States: Only already sick people are dying.
Yes I could and just as I am free to point out those being alarmist and irresponsible on this “Live” thread, (and yes I get that some people like to to rubberneck when driving and see an auto accident on the other side of the road-same thing here)
The irresponsible part comes in when people like Fox News’ Charles Payne’s wife with heart transplant cannot find the N95 masks she needs because people are fanning panic. Or a smaller incident: I was at Costco to buy some corned beef and cabbage for st Patrick’s day and saw first hand some older lady get knocked over by someone with a cart full of disposable gloves pushing to get more.
As someone posted on another thread: “the freakin paranoia is worse than the virus. My sister is 4 months pregnant, its ALL she talks about, 24/7 watching TV coverage of this mass hysteria, I dont remember this in 2009 when people were dropping dead from the swine flu, no mass panic and it killed more people in the US(over 14,000) but Obama was President and 99.9 percent of the commie media voted for him to had to protect him”
and my response is yes, and do you know how many fatalities there are in children under 10 worldwide?
0, Zero, Nada, None! ut you won’t hear that here-its not that contagious as compared to measles and a relatively mild virus compared to SARS
There isn’t enough masks to protect anyone from aerosol transmission, and no one wants to shut down the western economy.
So we play let’s pretend for a while and hope for the best.
