I’d enjoy being in the fiber arts group. Sign me up! My main focus right now is quilting; I also like hand embroidery and crochet. I’m not an expert in anything but get a lot of enjoyment out of making things.

I'm interested in making, cheap, simple chapel veils to give away to women and girls who attend our Latin Mass or who pray at our parish Adoration Chapel.

I considered buying some inexpensive synthetic tulle and just cutting it into large triangles and hemming it, but that is maybe a tad "too" plain. (I wouldn't want to make them so clunky that nobody would take one, even for free!)

But that's near the skill and cost level I'm looking for. If it could e actually pretty, so much the better.

I know nothing about various kinds of cloth, or various cuts which would be good for a veil.

Anybody got any ideas? Anybody want to try their hand at it with a few scraps of stuff?

Speaking of fiber arts, I’ve recently been getting emails from a number of yarn shops that I frequent. The shops are going to mail order only. Folks might want to check before venturing out to any of theirs.

Another project I’m trying to work on is to figure out a way to hide not-pretty books in an open bookcase in my music room. The hymnals look fine as they are, but some shelves have three-ring notebooks, and loose sheet music. It’s driving my OCD husband crazy.

I have taken some art, put them on easels, and then in front of the books. It’s OK, but not perfect.

To cover the stuff on one shelf I might piece a long narrow horizontal mini quilt with nicknames of Obama and Hillary in Morse Code. It’ll look like modern art and only I’ll know what it means. Could be fun.

Any ideas of how to hide ugly stuff on bookshelves would be appreciated! :)

OK, time for a new question.

We have an old couch from mr. mm’s parents and the seat cushions on it are absolutely SHOT.

They are the old, yellow foam rubber that is starting to disintigrate and crumble. There is no padding around the foam. It’s just the foam insert.

I’ve tried looking online but the choices for foam inserts are staggering. I have no idea what we need that will last and be fairly firm for sitting on.

What’s the difference between open cell and closed cell foam and is one better than the other?

Any advantages of latex foam over something else?

Anything else I should know?
