What is happening and about to happen is pretty unprecedented in our lifetimes. My colleague in Ireland went through SARS in Hong Kong. She says, “Americans have no idea what’s coming.”
Given the images I have seen and what other 1st World countries are doing...I think it is reasonable to give pause to her warning.
What we do know so far is it is far more contagious than the average flu. And after that...we don’t know what we don’t know.
A few weeks ago...it stopped the engine of the world in China. Iran is off the hook acting stupid. SK has drive up testing and Italy...well it’s Eu.
People I am speaking with tonight are actually scared. We’re talking about panic buying etc. on these threads. But, I can tell you...people are scared. They don’t know what to believe or understand. Companies cancelling interior United States events/conferences...people and businesses are frightened.
True, but I would like to know how it was released. There may have been others released. If the story of a lab worker selling testing animals is true, we may have more coming.
Ya.
I can see that.
Brrrr...
Cancelling large gatherings is a good thing—and will definitely slow the spread of the virus.
I am encouraged that these steps are being taken now—if everyone waited a couple of weeks more, then I would be really worried.
I think I’m officially in the scared column myself...
If you think they are scared now wait two weeks. See where we are.
Update on the firemen:
Kirkland puts more firefighters in quarantine after dealing with coronavirus patients
From CNNs Julia Jones and Andy Rose
The city of Kirkland, Washington, is putting two more firefighters in quarantine as a result of possible exposure to coronavirus.
There are now 27 firefighters in quarantine after having responded to coronavirus calls at the Life Care Center nursing facility, city spokeswoman Kellie Stickney said in a statement
That figure includes 19 firefighters who were moved into isolation, with some showing possible symptoms of coronavirus, according to Doug Stern, spokesman for the International Association of Fire Fighters.
An additional 10 firefighters are in quarantine from the nearby Redmond and Woodinville Fire Departments, along with two Kirkland police officers.

...
How sad.
Prayers up, for these first responder/firemen.
The military puts a date on everything and gets rid of it after that. It’s for safety reasons and maybe also to line the pockets of someone in fedgov most likely. That 3M 8120 model is listed on 3M’s coronavirus page too as being a decent one for us peons. Those might be the only ones left in the country.
Those must be HIPAA sheets. Looks like their primary concern is protecting the patient’s privacy. Protecting themselves and others from the virus looks pretty low priority to me.
I'm in the heartleand. Conservative country. I don't think it's quite penetrated how bad it's going to be...there's a lot of Rush listeners and I don't know if he did on purpose or not but there's still a fair bit of skeptism. Me? I've been ready for about 3 weeks no matter what happens. Hand santizer and wipes every where. Gloves and masks when and if it starts getting bad and we have to go out. Food for 4 months in case there's quarantine. If it goes beyond 4 months it will be a long haul but I feel President Trump is up to the challenge.
short-term it doesn’t beyond understanding what it does/expected to do.
long-term this is going to start a war.
Thank you—I didn’t expect _that_ to be the explanation.
I feel bad for any folks on the front-line who are not getting the training and support they need.
“True, but I would like to know how it was released.”
I agree society and the nation have a strategic, existential interest in where it came from and how it was introduced.
But individuals will worry about that when it’s over.
We have a whole bunch of smart, educated people in this country and I hope they’re working on the strategic questions.
I have been a fan of Rush for many years—but he is just not qualified to discuss this topic.
We are all human—and have our limitations.
this is for another 7 days quarantine?
and does this mean that all illegals are also barred from the city until such time as they provide a health certificate? ;)
BREAKING: Two confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Georgia. Governor Kemp says both are from the same family. One recently traveled to Italy.
I’d guess Kirkland has around 100 firemen or less.
When I lived in the area it wasn’t that big of town and it’s limed on all sides by other municipalities.
I think Rush was told to not start a panic. Simple as that. I think when he went to DC for the SOTU...he was informed to help not start a panic.
