The only people who panic are the people who do not believe the warnings. They will panic when it arrives to their city.
That is probably the most dangerous situation.
Its a terrible time to be any official I think, even worse to be a first responder in the near future.
At what point is local/regional quarantine less financially painful than possible full blown overwhelming of our hospitals and the resulting panic?
Apologies for my post 180. In looking at your post again, I see you don’t say forced, you just say prepared, as if by choice.
Knock yourself out. I'm not cheering it on I just happen to want to be able to go to the doctor in 3 months and still have a doctor to go to.
Apparently this virus does not come with sinus//nasal symptoms. So, if one gets mildly sick with sinus issues - its probably a cold.
No problem...
Sometimes there are no good solutions, and I sense that many Freepers (and many other people) are very uncomfortable recognizing that possibility.
It is easy to look for someone to blame (and sometimes there are people who deserve to be blamed) but at the local level mistakes are going to be made and local officials need to be cut a little slack.
Thank You Lucy T!
“I expect that there will be local quarantines before this is done, and this will surprise a lot of folks here.”
Most Americans will be astounded how much power a county health officer has.
Once activated by a declaration from elected officials, they become a dictator. And their enforcement is the county sheriff and all local officers.
The constitution goes into temporary suspension and due process...not even habeus corpus applies.
And as you said, a lot of folks will be surprised.
Actually, that’s not true.
The first German case thought he had a cold. Sniffly, sneezing, sore throat...
Confirmed infections outside Mainland China have more than quadrupled in 1 week. Probably not an accurate trend, but reflecting massive testing in SK, late detection in Iran and Italy. Our own testing will likely cause a big jump as we identify several weeks worth of infections in a short time. China meanwhile, according to the numbers they are providing, has effectively stopped the virus.
If you become sick, I hope you do the right thing to keep from infecting others.
I think we are hearing here on FR what the local officials will have to deal with:
“This is no different than the regular flu. You people are crazy.”
“Only old people die from this. Why are you not letting me do x.”
“This is all media hype. I can’t believe you fell for it.”
etc....
I have a distinct lack of trust in both King and Snohomish counties.
Statewide here, Inslee declared emergency powers, but has yet to start anything.
It’s almost as though a foreign power WANTS to cause chaos in the USA.
Hmmmm.....
Yeah, that must be why countries like Italy and Australia are getting cases... ;-)
Please, that is just not correct.
Just dayum.
A dealer at a casino handles a lot of chips and cards.
Remember that big snowstorm a few years back in Seattle.
I was there on business—omg—as a New Englander I felt right at home. :-)
The mayor got voted out of office because of that snowstorm.
I didn’t like the guy, but I thought the Seattle folks were very hard on him—it was a rare event and the city wasn’t prepared—that is hardly surprising!
That is an example of what I am talking about here.
