CALABASAS, Calif. - Put on the map with the help of the 'Beverly Hillbillies,' 'Beverly Hills Cop,' the '90210' clan and Weezer, Beverly Hills has worn the crown for wealth in Southern California, until now. Bloomberg just named Calabasas one of the richest cities in the U.S, surpassing Beverly Hills.
Located 25 miles west of downtown Los Angeles, Calabasas is a community of about 24,000, where Keeping Up with the Kardashians, now entering its 18th season, calls home.
Its a place where the rich and famous can enjoy a more normal lifestyle. We do have some ordinances about paparazzi that are very restrictive, said Calabasas Mayor Pro Tem James Bozajian. About half the city is also gated communities and that tends to be very popular with the celebrities.
The average household income is nearly $200,000, more than twice the national average. Real estate is considerably less than in the "90210."
The median home price in Calabasas is $1.19 million, compared to $2.7 million in Beverly Hills. The most expensive listing in Calabasas is $32 million in Estate at the Oaks, a gated community located inside of another gated community.
Crime in Calabasas is also minimal and the school district is strong.
Beverly Hills is too close to City of Los Angeles...In a few years, you could ride a subway train from Downtown LA to Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills failed to stop the construction of subway in the city.
Celebrities like privacy and Calabasas offers it in spades.

Old Jed’s mansion is now considered the most expensive house in America.
There they go, equating wealth with income. Income may allow one to become wealthy if the government stays out of the way and one invests wisely.
A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.
Calabasas, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Brentwood, Westwood, Pacific Palisades, Bel Air and Palos Verdes—perhaps the wealthiest cities in the whole world—are all in the 33rd Congressional District and represented by Ted Lieu, a left-wing Democrat.
This makes sense to me. I was shocked the first time I visited Beverly Hills a few years ago. What a dingy craphole that barely differentiates itself from the valley! I remember driving by Spago. A household name restaurant, famous for decades...and there was a homeless guy sleeping in front of it and the whole building had this filmy dinge on it, basically like everything else around it. It didn’t look opulent or fancy or a place I’d even want to go. It just looked like the whole area had seen better days.
Gets lots of publicity when the fire season starts. No thanks! I’ll keep my paltry funds for a safer environment.
I really enjoyed by years living in Agoura Hills, which is about 3 minutes west of Calabasas.
When I left So Calif 27 years ago, Calabasas was a quiet HORSE property community. No crime problems, then, either.
I truly DO NOT wish to see it now.
Calabasas Saddlery was a great store to go shopping in.
Well, it only takes a Kardashian or two, maybe three to raise up the wealth rank of that community to astronomical porpotions.
