Today’s Cryptogram

Posted on 02/29/2020 2:16:03 AM PST by nikos1121

Today’s fantastic CG is from The Arkansas Gazette. The author appears here a couple times per year. I’d rate it as “Easy”.

2 minutes would be an excellent score.

Hint:ABCA is not always what you think it is.

<\i>

AWYI WR K QOKBIAAWMX QN QUI ILXI NY GMNJAILXI, QUIM K AIKT QKGIM. —L.U. AKJOIMDI

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

Got fooled by ILXI, but after that it was straightforward.

Without that hint, I’d have been bogged down indefinitely.

I think whenever. I see a CG starting with:

4 letter word, 2 letter word, 1 letter word it’s almost always going to be the same phrase, especially the 2nd ans 3rd words....

I was able to guess the author and the rest fell into place.

I somehow managed to ignore your hint. I’m not looking for hints, I’d much rather do it myself, but I don’t mind giving hints to those who want them, especially neebees.

I know but usually one persists w ABCA being the same word all the time, and you spend your whole time w it.

Everyone knows I don’t give hints anymore.....

Good quote, one of the better ones.

I’m working with managers over me who will never stick their necks out and take a risk, but they’ll chop your head off if you try and fail....

Quote tells me if you’ve researched things go for it.....pick and try again if you must...

That quote is in the genes of the people living in a free society....

One unusual aspect of today’s quote, that makes it challenging, is the use of the indefinite article before the fourth word.

True....was the last word I figured out....actually the 4th letter in that word was the last letter deciphered.....

It was apparent that the second word after ILXI ended in ILXI, so that made the first two guesses unlikely.

The puzzles must be easy when I can get them in less than 2 minutes.

I’m not as refined a CG solver as many on this board based on their comments on how they solve. I’m more a plodder. I see a single letter and I automatically go for one solution over the other. When I see a 3-letter I usually try my “go to” solution. In today’s puzzle, both were correct and quickly led to the final answer.

I love these puzzles every morning even when it takes me many minutes. Thank you.

Two minutes. This particular poet is not really my cup of tea.
