So. Being that it’s China. Where did they get the healthy lung(s)?
Won’t the virus just destroy the new lung(s)? Won’t the anti rejection meds screw with the illness?
Questions...

Whew....we’ve dodged all of the *flu* bullets.

In principle, many hospital and academic labs around the country have the capability to carry out tests themselves. The PCR reaction uses so-called primers, short stretches of DNA, to find viral sequences. The CDC website posts the primers used in its test, and WHO publicly catalogs other primers and protocols, too. Well-equipped state or local labs can use theseor come up with their ownto produce what are known as a laboratory-developed tests for in-house use.
We use PCRs with saliva swabs in a study we have been working on (5 years). Our testing is far more complex than what the CDC was tasked to do with this virus. I don't understand how they could have screwed this up as badly as they have.

Family of Washington high school student who tested positive for coronavirus: “We didnt learn of the testing of COVID-19 until Friday morning, after our now symptom-free child left for school.”
To: lodi90
lodi90 stated: "At 50,000 flu deaths per year it is about 1000 dead per week from the flu. Keep that in mind while this corona bug is hysterically hyped. And most of these deaths will be of already sick/old people that would have been done in by something else like the flu."
I was taught if you use numbers you should provide a reference for those numbers. Anybody can throw numbers onto a forum. Do you have a reference?
Death Rate: Early estimates of the coronavirus death rate from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak, have been around 2 percent. But a new report on 1,099 cases from many parts of China, published on Friday in The New England Journal of Medicine, finds a lower rate: 1.4 percent.
On average, seasonal flu strains kill about 0.1 percent of people who become infected. The 1918 flu had an unusually high fatality rate, around 2 percent.
Summary: Coronavirus has a higher death rate
Infection Rate: Coronavirus appears to infect 2.2 other people.
The seasonal flu is roughly 1.3
Summary: Coronavirus virus is more contagious
Other facts: This coronavirus is a new kid on the block and has only been around since last Dec. Scientist do not know if this will mutate into less dangerous or worst. They do not know if it will fade away for the summer then come back in the fall like the flu. We do not have perfect facts or numbers until they collect more data. This could be real bad or it might just blow over.
The flu has been around in one form or another. We have vaccines for the flu each year. The doctors know how to handle it.
From my point of view: If you want to believe it hysterically hyped go ahead, I do not care. If I want to believe what I am hearing from reports and studies that is my business. I have skin in the game, apparently you do not. If the virus is bad as reported and enters my household, I will lose a love one. I will not take any chances.

Citing the current flu season with its lack of beds and number of severe cases, is not helping to support the supposition that we can logistically handle the novel Coronavirus. In fact, it makes our situation seem worse.

Hopefully this is not a repeat of Wuhan.
I remember reading the church members were in Wuhan up until early Dec. They left because they heard about people getting sick.
I wonder if the church has the original strain of Coronavirus that was in Wuhan. Is there more than one strain of Coronavirus? Is this thing mutating quickly? Is this why the rest of China appear to been spared?

Wow. Hopefully the severe patients got the beds. But over 1,600 known infected waiting for beds. They are adding over 500 a day now.

doing the math...so only 9 cases are mild and don’t need a hospital bed? or is there another reason why they all are sent to the hospital?
To: LilFarmer
Oh, is that all? Ya know...we used to transplant lungs for severe flu almost every day....

Lots of good questions. It does seem like some places are getting hit harder than others. The Daegu outbreak in ROK and the Lombardy in Italy are especially bad. And Iran of course

Thats what I cant figure out

That’s a great article, thanks for posting that.
