I think flus spread in winter because people are cramped inside together more making it spread easier.

Influenza cases in the heat of summer are rare but are known to happen. But it is likely you caught it from a recent traveler from the southern hemisphere. With a location in Florida, that sounds particularly likely.
It can survive the heat and you can get it at any time, but its spread is much reduced in the summer or warmer, sunnier parts of the year. The virus only lives about two seconds in sunlight, for example, which certainly reduces the likelihood of spreading through contact.
