Coronavirus fears have been raised on board a new cruise ship after it was blocked from docking in Jamaica because a member of its crew was sick.
The MSC Meraviglia, which is carrying more than 4,500 passengers and 1,600 crew from Miami, was barred from making port in Ocho Rios on Tuesday when officials discovered that a member of the crew was in isolation with flu-like symptoms.
Health minister Chris Tufton said the decision was taken because the person had a fever, cough, muscle pains and had been to a 'country of interest' linked with coronavirus.
The ship is now headed for Georgetown, the capital of the Cayman Islands, where health authorities have already said it will not be able to dock.

“The funniest thing is that what the Hells the difference between this coronavirus and your regular H1n1 influenza A B or any of your garden-variety viruses?”

Well, for one thing the reaction of the government of the country where it broke out. Quarantining 100s of millions of people and basically shutting down its economy might be a clue that something is going on. Something we’re not being told the whole truth about.
Our local paper has a little column about news stories from 25, 50, 75, & 100 years ago. Last year there were lots of stories about the “Spanish” flu. Schools and theaters were closed, church services limited, etc. But people here weren’t being welded into their homes/apartments and there weren’t trucks with boxes on the backs picking up the suspected sick off of the streets.
Of course the Spanish flu’s spread was aided by the world-wide movement of soldiers at the end of WWI. Of course today we enjoy the ability to travel (with our illness) to the far side of the world in less than a day. The jump of the disease to Korea is not as surprising or disturbing to me as its jump to Italy and Iran.
And why was yesterday’s Senate briefing classified? Just wondering.
This made me think of an old story from years ago....true or not, I don’t know....about ship loads of garbage(from NYC, I think)cruising around out in the bay because they had no place to dock where they could dump their load. It seemed funny at the time. Made me glad I didn’t live anywhere near there.
Rush is right. This is the common cold for the average person who gets infected. For the WHO and CDC its deja vu all over again of ebola.
I would suppose the number of people on a lockdown is approaching 1 billion. Japan just cancelled school til April.
If you want to believe it’s nothing more than the common cold, suit yourself.
If I am wrong, I have extra food I will eventually eat anyways.
One out of 6100. If one didn't have the flu I'd be surprised.
Didn’t bother me a bit.
At my age it’s probably gonna take me out one way or another.
Why not be swimming off Bonaire in February?
“Im amazed anyone would get on a cruise ship in Corona virus times...”
We did — in early February. A Princess ship. It was fine.
Hey me too...out of Ft Lauderdale.
Curacao, Bonaire, Dominica, St. Thomas, Grand Turk
Saw a flyer in the mail from Norwegian Cruise lines offering 30% off.
If one spends the insured dates on the cruise ship are they eligible for a refund?

I don’t understand how people here recite Communist China’s propaganda about the numbers of infected and dead as reason to say it’s no big deal.
Do they honestly believe communists tell the truth?
I’ve been seeing commercials for the new Virgin Cruise ship. Talk about bad timing.

I was on Sky - Feb. 1. Different itinerary - Belize, Honduras, Grand Cayman, Cozumel.
Living in a high rise isn’t that much different than being on a cruise ship... main difference - - we can’t tell a skyscraper not to dock near one of our cities.
Well we aren’t all going to die. We have a year’s worth of freeze dried and 265 gallons of water cluttering up the garage. Let the epidemic commence!
Who can blame them
They lack decent medical infrastructure and exists from tourism
“Do they honestly believe communists tell the truth?”
You probably don't want to know.
