Rush is WRONG- Death Rate Flu vs. Corona Virus

I love Rush but he has stated several time today that the death rate of Corona virus is LESS than the death rate of influenza. This is just flat out wrong.

From the CDC website

Mortality rate of influenza: Deaths per 100,000 population: 2.

So the CDC says that for every 100,000 people that get the flu, 2 of them will die from it. What is the mortality rate percentage?:

2 (the number of deaths) divided by 100,000 = .00002, or .002%.

The estimated mortality rate of corona (which he is basing on the number out of China = 2-3%.

Death rate of flu= .002%
Death rate of Corona = 2%

The death rate of corona is a THOUSAND times greater than the flu...and that's assuming that we used Chinese numbers. Using IRAN number the death rate is 15%...

Rush MIGHT be referring to the fact that the flu can kill up to 80,000 americans in a year. But that's only because there's a LOT more people infected with various flu viruses. When as many people are infected by the corona virus then there would be an accurate comparison.

Please consider this FACT:

The US CDC has completed 426 tests as of yesterday, of which there were 56 positive results. Only 426 tests so far. That’s a high percentage of positive results, but most are from the death ship.

Here in Washington there are approximately 1000 people on home quarantine, over 8,000 in California. Those people have not been officially tested.

Personally, I’ve started stockpiling things I already use every day like medicines and toiletries, some food. Oh, and ammo. These are things I tend to use almost daily (yeah the ammo too), so if it turns out to be a nothing burger no loss. I stay away from people and crowds, wash my hands very frequently, don’t touch public surfaces without washing after.

Simple things. I don’t want to pass this - or the flu - on to my loved ones.

I want this to be nothing but hype. But I’m not willing to sacrifice my loved ones in this hope.

Rush is wrong, I believe, but not by the tally that Doug states. It defies common sense to believe that if 100,000 people get the flu, only TWO will die.

That's what the CDC says about America and it's probably STRICTLY from influenza.

There is actually no way to tell how many flu cases there are each year. I have never gone to the doctor for the flu and have never reported it to the CDC. So the only figures that are realistic are deaths (as determined by a coroner) and hospitalizations (if reported).

That's NOT what Rush said. He said the death RATE for the flu is HIGHER than 2%. That's just not right. The annual death rate of the flu is less than 1% worldwide.

Interestingly AIDS/HIV mortality rate is 1.7% (CDC)

Rush is wrong but the lethality of this one is not as high as SARS and MERS, and they have been controlled. I think the problem with this one it can be transmitted by people without symptoms. Therefore it’s hard to control.

IMHO, there is no way that the Corona virus is not already here. Too many people traveled to China and back to the U.S. in December. We have most likely already been dealing with it in our health system - people with flu and pneumonia. Except in two places in the U.S., we can’t even test for it - the CDC kits are faulty. So we have no way of knowing it is not here. Since most cases are mild (and people don’t even know they have it) I think the % of deaths are being overstated because the % of cases are being understated, even though we can never trust China to tell the truth. That being said, especially if you are over 80 and contract it, the effects are gruesome.

MERS and SARS are not technically influenza. Corona is ACTUALLY another SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) variant. It is actually only the 2nd time that this virus variant has jumped to humans which is why it's so concerning. Nobody knows what it will do.

The CDC (they are wrong on guns) does not say that it is 2 of 100,000 who get the flu, but 2 of 100,000 die of the flu. Wuhan has 11,000,000 people, with 80,000 having the virus, which is .008%, of which 3600 have died, which is 4.5% (3600/80000). (If you believe the Chinese.) 4.5% is pretty high for those getting the virus.

Agreed. It's here and the government I THINK is doing the right thing. We can't stop it but why panic about it? IF it kills only 2% to 3% there's literally nothing we can do about that. We can ONLY try to not contract it ourselves.
