My parents lived in the NEK, my mom moving out in 2015. Did they ever build the Walmart on the road to Derby? Last time I was there there was a big hole on Main Streethave they built that up yet?
I took my kids there 25 years ago. It was very kitsch. My wife and I referred to it as Santa Scam....
Beautiful area.
They sure did! It’s a super Walmart, as you probably know.
Gisele Seymour, who played a big part in bringing the Walmart to town when she set out collecting signatures to convince the company to open this store, did the ribbon cutting, on Nov, 2016. I think they named the little street that leads into the complex after Ms. Seymour.
FWIW, anyone who lives in Vermont, if they are near the NH border, they cross over for the tax free shopping; for any of the box stores. :)
My real estate agent, a life-long native of Newport, told me the mom & pop stores there were terrified of the coming of the Walmart; it turns out that the Walmart draws more people to town/area, so business for the little guys has been booming. Go figure.
That leads me to ask you, if you have ever eaten at the Cow Palace? Thinking it would be a wonderful experience to try their elk steak, I took my son there for a treat. Oh boy.
Poutin and the big antler doorframe.
My Dad was a selectman in Derby and they lived down on Lake Memphremagog. My great, great grandfather was the Lindsay that Lindsay beach was named after.

His are the first words I saw today, spoken to me personally, as I sat down with FR, coffee in hand.
Annnnd???
Funny story, because you can't make this stuff up:
Here's the thing.. with the warmer temps (and snow melt), I had just come inside after looking at David who is planted about 14 ft. from the door.
[David is a butterfly bush I planted last summer. Normally I would have never considered or purchased one, as they are not reliably hearty here no matter what the tags claim.Back to this morning: I had seen that the heavy mulch was now exposed, so I went for a closer look at David. I was very surprised and delighted to see many green leaves poking out every which way. I was so happy, saying to myself, "David is alive!"
However, it was a lone specimen just sitting there at the garden center, and it was perfect for an empty space I needed to fill. I decided to take the chance. It wasn't until after I got home and read the fine print, that I saw the Latin name: Buddleja davidii.
I certainly wasn't intending to name a plant, but considering the unusual circumstance of its purchase and the hopes I had, I immediately named him "David." There it was already, the name right on the tag. Perfect.]
My next thought was about you with the cold and heavy snows of winter, described on this very thread. This was such a great sign of Spring. "I'll have to tell Daff about this good news about David!"
HAHA, you had already beaten me "to the punch".
"I have risen! Let's call the day Yeaster."
How wonderful!
Small world. If you are ever back up this way, stop in to see our little piece of heaven in the NEK. :)
LOL, you really are riding the wave!
Media reporting that NH now has more registered rats than GOP for the first time since 2010.
Remember Mark Twain’s warning about the three types of lies: There’s lies, there’s damn lies, and then there’s statistics.
In NH, Independents can vote in either the GOP or Dem primary, but when they select a ballot they are officially registering with such party, and if they want to remain as Independents they have to go back later to disaffiliate. Two weeks ago there were presidential primaries in NH in which the Democrat race was hotly contested while the GOP race was a fait accompli, so Independents disproportionately voted in the Democrat contest. Since such Independents wouldn’t have had time to disaffiliate yet, NH party registration temporarily has Democrats plus tens of thousands of Independents who voted in the Democrat primary registered as Democrats and Republicans plus very few Independents who votes in the GOP primary registered as Independents.
I think that, before we get our collective panties tied in a bunch with cries of “we’re doomed!” in NH, we should wait until the November elections and see what happens. I am optimistic that GOP Governor Chris Sununu will be reelected and that President Trump will carry NH’s 4 electoral votes.
I sure wish Sununu was running for the Senate......
I also heard it reported that there are now more registered Indies/Non aligned nationally than Republicans for allegedly the first time. ;-f
