Figured we would start numbering the threads.

Some points to keep in mind:

1. This thing is not “just the flu.” 2. 1/10th of the worlds population is in some sort of lockdown. 3. Generally, we don’t buy the Chinese numbers But if anything they are low. 4. Everyone is welcome to post, but don’t bore us with your “you are panicking” posts. They are tedious.

That’s where this is so fishy....well, that and how bungled all of the other CDC recommendations have been, so far (aren’t they the ones who first suggested that the Diamond Princess cruise pax STAY on the ship, from day one?)...the faulty test kits is just another misstep along the way, it seems.

Almost as if by plan.

I know. That’s why it’s nice to have a personal perspective. Unfortunately, it’s making me nervous.

They were healthy enough to go on an anniversary cruise, and now one is in critical condition.

I think they have tested a lot more, but are parsing language or rationalizing some way to keep the infected case numbers unofficial and thus unreleased.

If so, they are delaying for some reason. They are probably trying to get something in place and are worried a frightened public might interfere with their plans or act in ways that would circumvent their plans.

My guess would be certain areas are about to see travel restrictions. You don't want the first couple of days of a community outbreak in a city like San Diego, for instance, to be full of panicked people fleeing the city.

I think there is little accurate, published data on the actual percentage of infections needing ICU level care. I suspect that there may be many infections with minor symptoms that mimic those of colds and other upper respiratory infections. Some patients have tested positive and have not reported any significant symptoms. So the percentage of cases with serious symptoms may be uncertain at this time.

The reports from clinicians in China indicate the situation with the serious cases, and their data is not reassuring. The load on the hospitals is intense, and long lasting.

"Who makes these test kits? Why is only ours defective?"

This could be the rationalization for not releasing the real infected case number.

All you need is one semi-credible argument that there is some question about the test or the testing process that makes the results potentially unreliable and you can say we are having problems with the test, will have to retest, etc. and you don't have to release the numbers because they are not official.

As Americans we have brought lying in this manner to an absolute art form.

According to the sketchy numbers out of China, when is the projection for # of casses to top 100,000? What are the projections for the death toll to surpass 10,000? Next week for both?

I had the flu last year and was delerious for three days. It took me two weeks to recover. This coronavirus appears to be much worse.

Iran seems to have a different and much deadlier strain. Be prepared for empty shelves here within weeks people.

I've seen commenters suggest that this indicates close cooperation between Iran and China, probably on their efforts to make a nuke bomb.

I based my comments on the numbers reported from China. And we “know” they are light.

The 2-3% reported is a simple calc. The real rate is higher I guess.

I was talking about this with my 20-something son and I said, “I can’t imagine that they would risk so many lives for an agenda”. He replied, “Mom, these are people with no regard for life. Think about it.”

Potentially 1.5 M....22K/day....travelled here, from China, before the ban was put in place...is what hubby and I had heard on an outbreak report, a couple of weeks ago.
