Macron says that Brexit didn't do it, and I'm inclined to agree with him. I'm sure it didn't help, but the entry of the EU government into these areas was never going to be cheap. Governmental aspirations and ambitions can expand infinitely into a vacuum of perceived need, but money can't. "Managing" immigration, for example, gets cheaper if one stops when it becomes more than one can afford. Energy policies that are a net drain on resources due to a preference for ideology over science should be reconsidered and modified accordingly, should they not? Isn't this what coming up with a budget is all about?
