That is what I'm thinking. The studies (a few) are somewhat inadequate because mouse models do not recapitulate human metabolism (different kinase expression).

One important take away from the studies was exogenous ketones do not work. Being in a fat burning (ketogenic) state does.

I'm all for low carb and intermittent fasting to resolve metabolic syndrome. The disease begins reversing immediately with rapid drop in triglycerides before weight loss. It is insane to treat medically anything when dietary changes are effective.

I am still troubled by the second round of infections and am standing by NAC intake for remediation. I personally take pantethine (450mg TID) to cover both sides of the sulfur cycle. NAC is effective in stimulating glutathione peroxidase on the cysteine side and pantethine to cysteamine and hypotaurine on the CoA side. These are the primary ROS scavengers in the human body.
