The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have posted an extraordinary statement on their website claiming that the Queen does not own the word royal across the world after they were forced to drop their 'Sussex Royal' brand.
Harry and Meghan put a new statement on their own website hours after announcing they would stop using the word 'royal' in their branding after the Spring.
The statement said that while neither the government nor the Queen herself own the word 'royal' internationally, they would stop using the title.
The statement read: 'While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word "Royal" overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use "Sussex Royal" or any iteration of the word "Royal" in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020.'
They also appeared to complain that the palace is treating them differently to other family members.
The statement continued: 'While there is precedent for other titled members of the Royal Family to seek employment outside of the institution, for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a 12-month review period has been put in place.
'Per the agreement The Duke and Duchess of Sussex understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties and not undertake representative duties on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.'
A spokesman for the couple first issued a statement to the media about their use of royal titles shortly after 7.30pm on Friday but around 10pm they shared a much longer statement on their website via their Instagram story.

They are dealing with a monarch on the issue of whether or not she has the right to protect the monarchy from opportunists.

This is getting ugly. Men through the ages have maintained their claim to manhood by either quietly enduring, walking away from or playing the blues about being led around by a woman they were addicted to.
But this is not such a case. It is not a good look.
I wanna cash in on my bloodline but don’t want to be a subject of the Queen... I guess they want to spend all their assigned assets litigating against one of the richest women in the world who has absolutely no problem assigning a legal team to crush anything they do.
William was right when he warned Harry about her... Megan has ruined poor Harry and it’s sad, because of all the Royals that wore NAZI uniforms as a ‘joke’, he was the most likable one.
The Queen’s reach is longer than Meghan wants to believe. Meghan has also been very effective in pissing most of the Brits with her behavior. I find it hard to believe that Harry is this clueless.

At some point, the top tier celebrities are going to run away from them.
This level of toxicity can be directed at them at any given time...just like she has with all the others in the her past.
And when Prince William becomes King he is not going to forget all of this.
Yep, this is what happens when you let a liberal into the family. Liberals are beyond mentally deranged and when you take one into the family there’s a huge amount of baggage that comes with it. What was this guy Harry thinking anyway? He could have had any woman he wanted, he’s a freakin’ Prince for Gods sake, every hetero woman in the world when they were kids dreamed of marrying a Prince, and he picks an ultra-leftist? The guy is obviously naive as hell. He has no idea the kind of hell he’s going to be going through for the next few years if he isn’t already.
The Queen controls the titles. “Sussex Royal” is a clear reference to the titles. Harry and Megan are flat wrong, IMHO.
This incredibly shrinking couple should cloister themselves before they disappear altogether as interesting media fodder. They are the world’s oldest teenagers.

I wouldn’t call the Royal Family a hotbed of conservatism by any stretch.
Is there a precedent outside of the monarch themselves branding the title for his/her own purposes? The act of copyrighting “Sussex Royal” could work to protect the royal family by offering legal recourse in other jurisdictions when people sell stuff in their name, but that should have been left with the Queen. Harry is a Duke as long as the Queen says he is a Duke.
Prince CHarles friend who posts here says he is conservative except for the environment position.
